Atelier Firis: The Alchemist and the Mysterious Journey / フィリスのアトリエ ～不思議な旅の錬金術士～

[h2]Narmaya's Review[/h2] Atelier Firis follows a young girl dreaming of escaping her underground mining town of Ertona to see the outside world. After discovering her own talent for synthesis, she then sets off on a grand journey. Unlike the other titles in the series, Atelier Firis attempts a more non-linear open world approach with more freedom in exploring. The zones aren't seamlessly connected however and there are loading screens in between the areas. The core gameplay loop involves exploring different biomes, gathering materials, and utilizing a grid based alchemy system to craft gear and items. There is a 365 in-game days time limit for the first half of the story to pass the final exam. Although the strict deadline seems to discourage endless grinding and exploration early on, it is actually very forgiving. Despite sidetracking from the main questline quite a bit, I still had a considerable amount of free time left after achieving the main objective. After the exam, you are then left entirely free to explore, craft, and tackle late game bosses at your own pace. If you're coming here from Atelier Sophie (and you should) you may be confused and alarmed at the fact that the game is on a time limit. Don't worry about it too much. Once you pass it the timer goes away and you can do whatever the heck you want.

Im not too good at the Atelier games but i had quite some fun with Firis and her Journey. It is a lovely Story.

A solid Atelier game. Good combat, alchemy, and characters. I did find the inventory to be much more of a burden than in most Atelier games though, often having to trim down because it was full.
