-One of the best PC-adventure games I've played in quite some time, indie or otherwise. - Interesting and engaging post-apocalyptic storyline with subtle but appropriate incidental music. -Gorgeous graphics, many varied environments. Swamps (of course), labratories, facilities, shacks, a fishing village, etc: many of the areas almost or completely in ruins due to the hordes of...well, you'll see (no spoilers). All very realistic-looking in the particular style of the very talented graphic designers of the game. -Up to SIXTEEN manual save slots (who does THAT nowadays? It's really helpful for replayability) and auto-saving (upon exiting the game). You can save ANYwhere in the gme! -Something VERY unusual and very helpful for older gamers like me with carpal tunnel issues: the left-right-up-down navigation is usable whether the player uses their keyboard (WASD), or their arrow keys, or their mouse-clicking. Thank you, Cryo Swamp! NO pesky holding-down-your-mouse-or-direction-keys while walking from point A to point B. -The navigation-animation is seamless and smooth when picking a directional-arrow to follow. You watch the scenery unfold around you as the arrows take you left, right…6 found this helpful
Back in the Swamp may be a rather short game, and there’s little in the way of defined story and lore to make sense of it all, but sometimes a game just wants you to explore and experience a world the developers built for you. It’s clear that something bad happened here, and the oppressive isolation of the environment – even when you arrive at a couple populated settlements – just keeps adding to the atmosphere and the feeling of being alone, perhaps with the fate of what’s left of the world resting entirely in your hands. In all, this is a game to look at and listen to – to experience – more than anything else. And I’m fine with that in a game as effective as this one is at establishing player immersion. https://adventuregamehotspot.com/review/6248/back-in-the-swamp1 found this helpful
Awesome old-school adventure game. Great visuals and music make for a truly immersive atmosphere. We need more like this!1 found this helpful
Very good vintage game. The graphics are truly unique and create a post-apocalyptic atmosphere from start to finish. The gameplay has been significantly improved compared to the demo which makes the game enjoyable to play.1 found this helpful
This is a short indie game and a classic B-movie mixed together into a rough little diamond. Positives: The raw style and atmosphere in the visuals and sound perfectly fit the mood of the world. Negatives: I struggled with the controls (arrow-key system) and wished there was a better way to move around. The puzzles are okay, but you’d better not rush - some objects are really well hidden.1 found this helpful
For disclosure: I've been following the author for quite a while now, so I'm rather biased (did you know he has a channel with multiple short videos with stories set in the same world? Channel name is the same as the name of the game). Pros: - A very original world. I really enjoyed being there and figuring out what was happening. - Equally original art style. Well, this is probably what brought you here. - Relaxed no-rush gameplay. You can make a cup of tea and just sit there and watch frogs. - The controls let you do things quickly if necessary. - Zero bugs. That's something these days. I mean, the game actually has LOTS of bugs, but not the type that crashes it. Cons: - Rather short (I've completed the whole game in around two hours over two evenings. I've been using hints, but I just personally don't like guessing what's clickable and what's not). - Almost zero variability and, hence, replayability. I guess it's common for point-and-click. - Perceived danger is not really a danger. You just can't go to places where you might get killed. You can't throw a grenade into a wrong spot. It would be a lot better if the players were allowed to make mistakes. You walk into a scorpion…
