A good survival game, but definitely with some flaws. My biggest gripe: You barely notice yourself when you get damaged and how much. Sometimes I just glance somewhere for a second and suddenly I'm missing 60% of my health and I have no idea why. These sudden difficulty spikes really got on my nerves, especially early on. But I definitely like its style, setting, and how it feels to play. So consider this a very early review from someone, who will probably end up with a lot of time investing in this game.

Yes, the soundtrack is great! It's refreshing to hear good rap in a game and in BCS the music not only sets the tone thematically but also syncs up with the rhythm of moving around the environments and kicking butt. This game feels a lot more frantic to me than other survivorlikes, which I appreciate, and a big part of that are the "living" stages filled with destructible objects and interactive elements, like oil that can catch fire from exploding cars, etc. The enemy mobs are also more dynamic and complex than usual and have personalities more akin to beat 'em up foes. They even fight each other and it's not uncommon to find yourself in situations where you're caught in the middle, trying to work around their behaviors as well as the stage hazards. If you feel like the survivor genre would benefit from some arcade energy, with big sprites, big freaks to fight, and fast, chaotic pacing right from the outset... then I think you should give Beatdown City Survivors a shot! It's the only game I know of where you can listen to rap music while you demolish giant rat men in a subway with a shiba inu and an army of pigeons carrying chanclas.

A great twist on the Survivors-like Genre! Harder than many, the environmental hazards it adds keeps you on your toes, the weapons are varied and fun. and the rescued survivors add a nice little management aspect. The levels are fun and inventive, and it's very easy to get in the zone and beat up on zombies for an hour or two without noticing the time fly. The music selection absolutely owns, and adds to the immersion. If I was to add a major criticism, leveling and combining weapons is weirdly hard - I've had to wait until almost 18 minutes into a 20 minute level to finally get a combo before! Also, some combos feel like an outright downgrade, especially the ones that reduce range when you need to be kiting a boss. Anyway, definitely at least play the demo if you like survivors-likes and/or wish they were a bit harder. Bonus points if you love NYC and/or underground rap.

I love this different take on the survivor genre. The music is a great vibe to this. There is a crazy amount of synergies available in the game to the point that I can still discover new ones while playing. There are unlocks that are both character specific and available to everyone. I've enjoyed my time with this game and I will come back from time to time to vibe and unlock everything.

Great soundtrack, fun weapons, probably the hardest survivors game I've ever played.
