[h1] One of best visual novels I've read[/h1] [h3]But so few people bought this game, that it still has a mark on steam page with "steam is learning about the game", after almost five years! This is a crime![/h3] I will be honest: Untill this game, I had a prejudice toward non-japanese visual novels. I always thought they were worse than japanese ones. And their maximum level is "not bad". Because of it, I pushed this vn far in backlog. But due to some reasons, I've read it now. And I am very impressed. There is recommend route order. First two routes are not that special. But next three are very good. I was totally invested. Time passed by in the blink of an eye while reading. And I got teary eyed during one particular scene at the end. I love when visual novels drive me to such strong emotions. There is romance, but story doesn't focus on it. Don't expect something like dating sim. Coffee play big part in the story. But you don't need to be coffee fan to enjoy this vn. Nice soundtrack! [i]Caffeine: Victoria's Legacy[/i] is a bishojo, fantasy, steampunk visual novel developed and published by Kikai Digital. You take on the role of Taka Knight, a young man around university age who is on a plane to find clues about his mom, who disappeared when he was around six years old. On that plane, he meets a mysterious female figure who offers him a canister of cold brew coffee. Taka drinks the coffee and then shortly after, he's flown off the airplane (which is in mid-air). Before he knows it, upon waking up, he finds himself in the city of Victoria, but it happens to be in an alternate universe where industrialization has made slower progress and where coffee has caffeine powers that when used on the right person with the right temperament, can unleash powers, like fire, teleportation, etc. Taka finds himself in Taka Coffee House, which is - weirdly enough - named after him and is under the ownership of Alice, a young lady who dreams of baking the best pastries ever. The game strikes a perfect balance in its storylines, offering a narrative that is both smooth and captivating. Here are my thoughts broken down into pros and cons: Pros: 1. The author's profound understanding and love for coffee shine through, making it a delightful game aspect. 2. The world-building is exceptional, with compelling stories and rich lore. 3. The characters are well-developed and charismatic, especially the villain, who stands out brilliantly. 4. The humor, particularly the coffee puns, adds a delightful touch. 5. Why do more people not know of this visual novel

Presentation: I like Victorian settings, and the warm color colors work well. The characters look good with a nice amount of animation. The voice acting is mostly good, but the audio quality is often lacking. The diverse soundtrack is good. There are some nice diagrams used when explaining brewery, and a lot of the dialogue focuses on the lore. There are interesting background characters, and I probably laughed a few times. Don't expect much actual romance outside of flirting. Gameplay: The flag system is difficult but engaging. Half of the choices are probably meaningless, to the point that the game sometimes insults you by denying what you try to do. The game shows progress on each route on some screens between chapters. I think the way routes diverge is handled well, but getting a good ending often relies on specific choices made during the entire playthrough more than the flags. Like I said, it's difficult (and not necessarily fair), but engaging. I recommend this game because it's unique enough to compensate for its flaws. It has a good length.

So i backed this game on kickstarter and got around to playing it. I have...mixed feelings on this visual novel, so let's see Pros Voice acting was okay at parts art was cute at parts some of the routes were okay Good music Lots of choices Cons Voice acting WASN'T okay in some parts. some of the routes were NOT okay some choices didn't matter "True" Ending wasn't very good okay so let me start off by saying, i don't like it when visual novels have "True" endings. every ending you get should be felt as a "True" ending. no matter which route you pick, that should be a "True" ending. by saying one is "True" that makes the rest of them feel less valid which is irritating. So in this game there are 4 routes. There's Eliza, Oceane, Alice, and Mel. And i can tell you right off the bat, the only really GOOD one is Oceane. Oceane's story was very sweet, had a lot of good moments and really felt like a good, slow build romance with a somewhat bittersweet, yet satisfying ending. The rest of the endings...unfortunately were not very good. Alice's ending is very quick and basic, Mel's i just found rather dull, and Eliza's was far too overblown and tried to do too much and didn't succeed …
