Charterstone: Digital Edition

It's a really great board game and since it's a legacy board game the digital version has the big advantage that you can play it over and over again from the beginning without having to buy a new game. BUT, after already 5 years there are still way too many bugs that make the playing experience not always so satisfying. In a live multiplayer game recently, with just 2 players, the game repeatedly got stuck for one of us and required a reload, but there was no indication from the game itself. It just said, that it's the other players turn, but for each one of us. Furthermore there are really no links to the rules and you have to dig thorugh them for every detail you want to know, while it could be so easy to just structure them easier and conect them with ingame elements. Furthermore there is nothing like a simple game log, which makes it hard and takes a lot of time to realize everything your opponents have done in their turns (if playing with AI or an asynchronous game). That's really not rocket sience, just some simple lines of text and maybe some ingame icons that are already there. I won this game through SteamGifts. I got Charterstone: Digital Edition as a giveaway win on Steamgifts through the playing appreciated group, and I was pretty excited to try it out. It’s based on a real-life board game, which I’ve never played, but I’m always down for a good turn-based, board game-style experience. Going in, I’ll admit I felt a bit lost. The game does offer a tutorial, but since I had no background with the physical board game, some of the mechanics felt confusing. There’s a lot of resource management, building, and strategizing involved, but I struggled to understand how it all tied together. I kept wondering if I was missing some crucial context that veterans of this board game already knew about. I played through the campaign, but if I’m honest, I didn’t really enjoy it much. The gameplay loop didn’t click for me, and I felt like I was just going through the motions rather than making meaningful decisions. It’s not a bad game by any means—it seems like there’s a solid strategy game under the surface—but I just couldn’t get into it. Visually, the game is nice enough. The board game was a much better experience, but this is a good implementation and is allowing us to play through again (indefinitely) for less than the price of the reset pack.

I love the boardgame version, played the campaign 3x now. The digital version is fast, it's a bit hard to keep track of what the AI players do (I used 5).

I love legacy games and nice to not have to have a ton of people to enjoy one.

Played the board game and this is the same minus all the set up. Great application.
