About Gibbous - A Cthulhu Adventure

✦ AI summary

Play as a detective, librarian, and cursed talking cat investigating cosmic horrors and cults across the globe in this hand-animated comedy adventure set in a creepy Transylvanian town. This lovingly crafted point-and-click features gorgeous HD art, 12,000+ voiced dialogue lines, and a darkly humorous story that balances genuine Lovecraftian dread with moment-to-moment comedy.

A comedy cosmic horror adventure made in Transylvania.

Darkham, with its crooked gambrel roofs, dark alleys, and a past shrouded in secrecy, never really was a welcoming place, but nowadays? Kooky cults are popping up everywhere, and that most evil book, the Necronomicon, is spoken of in trembling whispers once more.

Detective Don R. Ketype is on the case to retrieve the mysterious evil tome, but unsuspecting librarian Buzz Kerwan stumbles upon it and accidentally transforms his cat, Kitteh, into a walking, talking abomination. Being humanized? Quite a downgrade.

Gibbous is a comedy cosmic horror game - a modern adventure that is classically inspired, features gorgeous HD art, detailed traditional animation, and a lengthy story that will see the three protagonists travel around the world and deal with abominations both cosmic and human-made, voodoo, and Things That Should Not Be. From Lovecraft Country to Transylvania, set off on a quest to get a very cynical cat to stop talking.

• Over 60 hand-painted, detailed environments inspired by Transylvanian architecture and nature;

• Fluid traditional 2d animation with a Disney-esque look and feel;

• Two protagonists and a talking ca--- Okay, three. Three protagonists;

• Upwards of 70 fully voiced, crazy characters;

• Special guest appearance by Doug Cockle, voice of the Witcher;

• Contains most genuine Transylvanian accent in games and media, like, ever;

• Over 4 hours of lush original soundtrack featuring live instruments;

• A lengthy cinematic story that spans continents and more;

• Moment to moment humor, darker arching plot;

• Dynamic lighting, real time reflections and weather system;

• Integrated hint system to help you when you’re stuck;

• Fully animated cartoon cutscenes that punctuate important story beats;

• Over 12,000 voiced dialogue lines;

• Custom voiced responses for all the crazy combinations you can think of;

• Lovingly made near Vlad the Impaler’s birthplace;

• No cutesifying or making fun of the Old Ones, praise their Dark Names;

• Did we mention the talking cat?

Such a great game. Really funny and generally just fun to play. It was never boring or annoying. A bit too easy for my taste for my taste. But overall really nice to play. I can totally recommend it

If you like games like Monkey Island but also like horror-spoofs (this feels niche) then this is an essential purchase. The characters are fun, the voice acting is great, and the art style is spot-on.

So it's a parody of the Cthulhu Mythos and classic Point n Click Games, while also being a love letter and a perfect example of both genres? That's a tall order to fulfill and yet it sticks the landing on both fronts. Rarely have I seen a game, or to be honest any work of fiction, where I can both roll my eyes in a " Oh you guys" sorta way AND still be invested and feel the Lovecraftian dread of the overarching cosmology as I had in this game. At least a 9/10 for me. At least! Well worth it's full price.

too boring to finish

Great game. Good graphics, solid story, good voice acting and mechanics. Puzzles are easy to medium and fair. Really liked the main characters.

The art is awesome. Can tell they spent a ton of time hand drawing each scene and it reminds me of the 90's adventure classics. Really well done. Unfortunately that's the main thing going for it. The voice acting is absolutely abysmal. It sounds like the devs decided to voice all of the characters themselves or resorted to Fiverr. The art and animations are so good that it makes this stand out even more, it's a shame. The puzzles are also unfortunately extremely easy and uninspired. Maybe I'd stick around for the story but as another review pointed out, the dialogue is very corny and at times straight up cringey. I got this on a heavy sale so I won't complain too much but I didn't end up finishing it. Not worth $20.
