About Cossacks II: Battle for Europe
Command massive armies of thousands across detailed Napoleonic battlefields where terrain, morale, and realistic ballistics physics determine victory. Lead France, Britain, Russia, Prussia, Austria, Spain, Egypt, Poland, or the Confederation of the Rhine with 180+ unique units and historically authentic uniforms, weapons, and tactics.
The Cossacks II: Battle for Europe reconstructs in detail the soldiers' uniforms weapons and architecture of each nation. Each nation's army has its unique units and possibilities. The game includes over 180 units 190 buildings and 1200 flora and fauna elements. When developing the combat system the peculiarities of early 19th century warring were taken into account as was the value of formations provisions and troop morale. Tactical tricks utilized by military commanders of the time are fully reflected in the game. An "honest" system of bullet and cannonball ballistics based on physics is an innovative addition to the Cossacks engine. Other engine features include 3-dimensional landscaping which creates realistic-looking scenery and towns and impacts combat tactics. For example the firing range of a subdivision of soldiers or a cannon positioned at the top of a hill is greater than the firing range of a unitstationed on flat terrain.
Key features:
- Control the French, Russians, Austrians, Britons, Prussians, or Egyptians -- master new weapons and tactics during a time that redefined the meaning of modern warfare.
- Fight through historically inspired battles of the 19th century, with massive armies colliding in different types of terrain and weather.
- Battles on real historical scale with tens of thausands of units on one map.
- Realistic Troop Morale System - Well-fed troops live longer and grow in experience to become valuable battlefield assets, while fierce and overwhelming opponents, or marching long distances will cause morale to drop
- Enhanced diplomacy tools help you create treaties that give you the advantages

The game just doesn't work on modern systems anymore. Even after spending over an hour researching and trying different fixes; compatibility modes, editing XML files, downloading patches, replacing files it remains unplayable. :(
Honestly disgusting that this is being sold in this state. Thankfully, this guy's done the developers' jobs for them with this amazing guide which sorted things for me: if you're picking this up, just follow these steps before hitting play for the first time; you'll save yourself so much hassle and actually have a working game by the end. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3708276050 I didn't, first time around, so here's how it went for me after purchase - booted up for the first time, launched the tutorial just to check the settings; immediate freeze after loading screen - navigate to the .exe in windows explorer, and test all the compatibility options available. None of them work - follow random tips about deleting cache folders or downloading patches. None of them work - restart my machine in exasperation; finally loads in! - realise that 4k, despite being listed in the options, doesn't work correctly - realise that no resolution higher than 1080p works correctly - slowly realise that half the buildings don't appear on screen - Uninstall, about to give up; one last google turns up the guide linked above - Re-install, follow the steps, finally have a worki…
slow as ♥♥♥♥
A good game with a lot of lost potential. The battles are done beautifully and have a good replayability, but there are a good amount of bugs that makes the game a little bit annoying. If you decide to play the game, make sure you install "dgvoodoo2" and use the D3D8.dll. The game uses DirectX 8 and using DirectX9 on my setup made it do weird things.
Very confusing gameplay! I love Cossacks 3 and Cossacks: Back to war but this one is different.! Annoying mechanics, horrendous population, and notoriously unintuitive! Worst Cossacks game I played. Not recommended.
Great game from the Golden Era of RTS!
