Giving this game a thumbs up due to how unique it is, and because I would love to see more games made by creative individuals rather than soulless corporate cash grabs. That being said, I ended up quitting Deep 8 because the mini-games ruined it for me. I don’t know why some rpg devs do this. Turn-based combat and resource management is interesting enough on its own, why ruin it with horrible mini-games? You don’t see Call of Duty interrupt their gameplay with chess matches. Metroidvanias don’t “shake things up” with rhythm dance sections. RPG game devs, here’s the thing: RPG gamers actually enjoy RPG mechanics. We’re not gritting our teeth through turn-based battles hoping and praying for the trickiest platforming ever to come and visit. I’m really sour about this because I really wanted to see what would happen, this game’s story is so interesting, the characters are so unique. Such a shame!3 found this helpful
TLDR: A successful J-RPG, very atypical in many ways, tackling themes that are rare in video games. I was strangely sad to finally leave this universe and these characters. I highly recommend it. 👍 👍: Atypical and strangely endearing characters. 👍: The very special atmosphere, with its bizarre 3D. 👍: The OST, with some tracks cleverly using stereo, very rare! Special mention to the track "Sabres Absturz." 👍: The scenario, which gradually gives full meaning to the game's weirdness... You've never seen these themes tackled in a video game! 👍: The various interconnected systems that make combat and build choices super interesting. 👍: A strangely captivating challenge, it's been years since I've enjoyed doing a bit of level upping! 👍: Really cool post-game challenges. 👍: RPG Maker 2003 pushed to its limits. ☹️: The beginning of the game is unnecessarily hard and requires a bit of level-up, those damn rabbits! ☹️: The jumping system is frustrating, but you can activate automatic aids in the menu. ☹️: Some inconsistencies and rushed moments in the script. Note: Don't forget to activate the "Controller" mode if you're using a Gamepad.2 found this helpful
"Deep 8" предлагает увлекательную игру в стиле пазла, где игроку нужно пройти через сложные магические лабиринты, собирая предметы и избегая препятствий. Геймплей сочетает стратегию и интеллект, с уникальными механиками, которые делают каждый уровень интересным. Визуальная атмосфера и музыка добавляют глубину, но некоторые уровни требуют больше усилий, чем они оправдывают. В целом, игра поднимает стандарты в этом жанре, но при этом остаётся на уровне современных игр.1 found this helpful
good for being free but I probably wouldn't pay too much for it. I heard it has been on sale for around 18$ which is somewhat appropriate for the game's length but not the depth and variety it fails to deliver. tl;dr; it's a weird game which has its moments but overall it's gonna be an interesting, fun and eerie experience.
Dialogue
if you're bored and looking for a time machine into old school rpgmaker games with quirky and raw dialogue (can't speak for the english version as I played on german) this game will somewhat deliver - even if forced at some points. in some parts the dialogue is basically self-aware of being this way and then in crucial moments of the plot it still pulls through this scheme, where you wouldn't expect it.
Plot/Story (SPOILERS HEAD)
the beginning is very interesting and got me hooked because of the premise, that a race literally has the power to
eradicate planets with a gigantic cannon and in general is just overwhelmingly powerful, which gives a sense of helplessnes (considering early on you see that these people are your enemies)
the development of the characters is the most important factor since I have a…1 found this helpful
Feels like I played a long lost Sega CD RPG from the panty punishment timeline. Highly recommended!
