Destination Sol

This game is broken AF! I can't find the space station and the little platforms don't appear on local radar until they're right next to you. I was docked and it hit a planet, then the shop screen disappeared and the camera stayed in place while it, and my ship left off screen. You have to exit to main to change your controls, half of which cannot be set to controller, and Resuming puts in a random spot, seemingly starting the game over as I lost the Pirate Gun from my inventory. Well enough though as I can't find how to equip anything.

Destination Sol strikes me as a bit incomplete. But what is there is pretty solid. If you have played Captain Forever or Asteroids, the basic gameplay here is sort of a mix of both. The game more or less consists of flying around in search of things to shoot. You can upgrade your ship by buying items or picking up items dropped by enemy ships, which are everywhere. There are also planets to fly around, which is pretty neat. There is not much variety though. A few systems, a few enemy types, and a few weapon types which all work fairly similarly. Rarely you may encounter certain items with special effects, but most items are simple. You can experience everything this game has to offer in a few hours. Other than the lack of content, the other big issue I have with this game is the music. It is loud, annoying, and lacks character in my opinion. Fortunately you can just turn it off. To be honest, I got bored with this one pretty quick, but it was fun for an hour or so, and it is free. So go ahead and give it a spin if you like.

"Destination Sol" is unusual because you can't get any more ethically made games that open source! And this is an open source open world space flight trading/combat arcade game with pixelcrap graphics. It's understandably popular, open source games deserve more recognition. What do you do in the game? It's got a wide array of things you can do, it's no Star Control 2, but it's well fleshed out for an open source project. Trading, exploration, combat, and a great progression system where you can upgrade your ship. I might even go so far as to say if you really wanted to play a pixelcrap mobile app, this is the one to play. Maybe. This is a mobile app... it doesn't matter if this hit Steam Direct before the app stores rubberstamped it, or if it failed to even reach the app stores. This is built for the absolutely lowest of all gaming platforms and must be judged as such... it's not going to give you a cutting edge PC gaming experience. That detail alone is reason enough to reject this from any kind of recommendation to PC gamers. Solid tech demo / sandox. Good controls, weopon variety, music, atmosphere. World feels softly alive: meteors hitting the planets, trade ships popping by at random, miner's mining, cargo ships hauling, pirates pirating. No quests just at this point. Just roam around, shoot stuff, upgrade etc. There are occasional application crashes here and there.
