About Distant Nightmare - Virtual reality
Your objective is to cycle through the unexplored environments of your mind in hopes to survive the night and wake up the next day.
As you cycle through this VR world you will explore new environments, new creatures and challenges, as well as unlock a variety of bikes worthy of elusive nightmares and cycling demons. And if you want to push yourself even more and test your focus while you slumber and cycle, try the time trial mode where collecting time is the only way to survive. That’s if surviving the nightmare is even an option...
So how far will you get, and what bikes (maybe not just bikes…) will you unlock to guide you through your gloomy dream. Will you hide in a corner and cry while you wait for the sand man, or will you get on your bike and ride through hell. The choice is yours.
In the dark blue sky you keep
And often through my curtains peep
For you never shut your eye,
‘til the sun is in the sky...

"It’s not expensive and has a solid, creepy atmosphere. Worth a look if you like this genre!"

"Distant Nightmare might not be the scariest game you will ever play, but for value for money, it is worth downloading. With fast moving and challenging gameplay, but yet also deadly simple and with a score, you could also do a challenge mode with friends to see who gets the highest score. This game is for anyone who enjoyed “Into The Dead” if you loved that game, you will love this."

"In Distant Nightmare you are put into the mind of a child who is in the middle of a night terror. So you get on your bike and try to cycle your way out. Or at least last long enough to survive until this kid wakes up. So while in this dark world you will have to explore various environments, including a cemetery and a sewer, while various obstacles and nightmarish demons try to block your way. Distant Nightmare uses a scoring system that’s based on the distance you travel in the game. So the better you overcome the roadblocks and monsters, the higher your score."

Players overwhelmingly dislike this game, criticizing its simplistic one-dimensional gameplay that consists mainly of leaning left or right on a bicycle to avoid obstacles with poor collision detection and instant game-over mechanics. Common complaints include extreme repetitiveness, bland visuals, lack of content depth, and frustration with the punishing difficulty that makes the experience tedious rather than fun. One positive review praises it as one of the best VR games they've played, though even that reviewer notes the rocket mechanic is too fast, suggesting the game has minimal appeal t
Only nightmare about this game is how bad it is. Not even worth .50 cents. Total embarrassment to the VR systems.10 found this helpful
Dreadful. The "Game" (if you can call it that) consists of leaniing left or right as you`re propelled forward on a bicycle. Critters are appearing out of the darkness and you have to avoid them, and thats IT as far as gameplay goes. but heres the thing - you only get one chance, if you so much as clip a single obstacle (and bear in mind the collision detection is attrocious), then it`s "Game Over". It`s boring, its repetitive, and its not fun.8 found this helpful
0.0001 out of 10 This review is just a warning to avoid. Surely the recommendations are trolling or mates of the dev. This came in an indie bundle so worked out to 40p. And that's still 40p too much in my opinion, this should be free. And even for free it's pretty rubbish, it's a play once, uninstall and forget instantly type of game. The very bland appearance is equally with matched bland gameplay and after 4 goes and 20 minutes of my life wasted I've extracted more than 100% of what this game has to offer. Honestly I'm not going to waste any more energy writing about this trash, which is already more than is deserved.5 found this helpful
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hell, I'll be 90 years old before this pile of ♥♥♥♥ is a distant nightmare. Ride a bike avoid trees and scary bats in VR and I suppose if I could handle another 10 minutes I would also have to avoid zombies and Uber driver rapists. Pile of ♥♥♥♥ that makes me want to run down all people who ride bicycles.4 found this helpful
one of the best vr games i have ever played ! 10/10 the only time i had problem was with the rocket its way to fast other then that the game is fun and for the right price2 found this helpful
Distant Nightmare is a compact and experimental VR horror experience that prioritizes atmosphere and immersion over mechanical depth or narrative complexity. Developed and published by FoV, the game presents itself as a surreal journey through a child’s recurring nightmare, delivered through an unusual core mechanic that immediately sets it apart: the act of pedaling a bicycle through an ever-shifting dreamscape. Rather than attempting to compete with larger VR horror titles through content volume or technical spectacle, Distant Nightmare embraces its small scale and leans into mood, abstraction, and the unsettling logic of dreams. The premise is intentionally simple and symbolic. You inhabit the perspective of a child trapped in a nightmare, and your only objective is to keep moving forward until morning arrives and you awaken. The bicycle is not just a vehicle but the central metaphor and gameplay mechanic, tying progress directly to motion. Stopping, slowing down, or hesitating creates vulnerability, reinforcing the idea that nightmares feed on inaction. As you pedal forward, the world unfolds in fragments: foggy graveyards, narrow tunnels, dimly lit paths, and indistinct space…
