About Divine Favor

✦ AI summary

Wake up dead and navigate the afterlife through dialogue with a mysterious guide in this short kinetic novel about Leon Montgomery's unexpected arrival in Heaven. A twist-filled supernatural story that questions whether paradise is truly what it seems.

A man wakes up in Heaven.

Divine Favor is a short (5-10 minute) kinetic novel that follows the story of Leon Montgomery, and the events following his untimely death. Bathed in darkness, with only the voice of a kindly old man to guide him, Leon has no choice but to acclimate to his new surroundings... but since this is Heaven, that shouldn't be a problem... right?

Divine Favor is a click-every-sentence e-book that's been dumped on Steam. There's a somewhat lame horror theme about the afterlife, but it falls flat. The true horror is that Valve's QA is so non-existent that they let this on the store. It was made by filling out templates in the godawful RenPy visual novel construction kit, so no professional development of any kind went on here. It's badly written (if they could write professionally, they'd be published authors, instead of paying $100 to self publish this on Steam by pretending it's a video game, which it isn't). Because this is not a game, I can't recommend it. My gaming rig is not a Kindle. If you want a decent e-book, you can get plenty for free at Project Gutenberg and other places on line, so there's no reason to buy this badly written non-game on Steam.

Really a nice surprise to take with a cup of dark coffee!

I stumbled upon this randomly while searching for something else, and I'm so glad I did. It's genuinely upsetting despite its short run time, with some cool art and horrible (in the best way possible) sound design. Definitely worth a look if you enjoy psychological horror.

This is a bit unnerving. Heh, almost wish there were no visuals and it was just left to your imagination to visualize things. Despite the length, still worth the $1.

Delightfully haunting, the perfect length to reel you in and hold you before it ends, but without actually letting you go.
