✦ AI summary

Eva Reynes is an RPG Maker mystery game that impresses players with its well-written story, witty dialogue, interesting characters, and engaging discourse-based gameplay inspired by Ace Attorney and Danganronpa. However, the game frustrates many players with its punishing difficulty, especially the timed debate sequences where unclear objectives and limited evidence review create a steep learning curve that some find more frustrating than fun.

RPG Maker strikes again! Eva Reynes is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. It looks like there's some mediocre/amateur "anime" style hand drawn pictures as well, which further detracts from the game. As with all RPG Maker games, the poor quality engine displays badly in fullscreen and doesn't have full HD support or any graphics tweaking options, making this unacceptable for any dedicated modern PC gamer. The point can be made that the intention of RPG Maker is to make demos and small games to pass around friends, and shouldn't be used for "professional" game development. Notably the developer here couldn't work out how to use RPG Maker to make an RPG... and that's the only thing RPG Maker can do properly... except it's not even very good for making RPGs. Instead, we have a craptastic, badly written E-book with a l…
The Good:

Well-written story with a good amount of wit
Interesting, charismatic protagonist and a good overall cast
Gameplay is much like Ace Attorney Investigations's, with a dash of Danganronpa's
Multiple endings based on who you decide is the culprit; like in Eredia, your choices matter.

The Bad:

Still some bugs to iron out
The UI could use more pizzazz, to be closer to that of its inspirations
Objectives can be a bit unclear at times

Verdict:
Pretty good ^_^ The story certainly kept me interested, and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes these sorts of mystery games.

This game is difficult. The main character Eva makes me think Eva is the child of Sherlock Holmes and Bayonetta. You need to be on point with choosing your evidence in discourse otherwise it's game over. It doesn't help that there's a stupid timer. The Journal is next to useless as any evidence you collect can't really be brought up for a re-read. Even knowing the tasks you have left over give no detail. I barely got past the first case. And when I did I was so frustrated that I just decided I wont be bothering finishing it. No Deck support either which would be perfect for those who welcome the challenge.

It's really a great game! Music is nice, the art is great, the characters are interesting and it's incredible the interaction depth that you can have! I found myself in a hate-love relation with the discourse battles: knowing that you have only few seconds to defy statements or prove lies and give come backs, with fast paced music on the background putting you under pressure, it's a nightmare!! I almost lost the game once because of this ha ha! I hate it... and I love it!! This game proves a challenge and I guess that's what I like the most about it, not to mention the dark humor. Nothing like trying to prove yourself against just everybody and come out as a winner with a few sarcastic lines in the middle! I definitely recommend it to the ones disposed to get their butt kicked a couple of times and those who like things a bit rough. It has everything! There's little not to like about this game. Well done!! :D

Started out okay, but I got stuck partway in during a discourse and couldn't figure out what I was getting wrong. With the timed element, and no online walkthroughs, I didn't end up finishing. I think adding a timed element should be an option for gameplay, so you could play it casually or in a more difficult mode.
