About Fausts Alptraum

✦ AI summary

Explore a haunting mansion filled with fragmented memories and supernatural mystery as Elisabeth, guided only by candlelight and a cryptic purple demon, searches for escape while resisting the pull of nostalgia. This atmospheric psychological journey blends crayon-illustrated storytelling with an unsettling puzzle where becoming too attached to moments means losing the game entirely.

Elisabeth Faust was attending her father's funeral.
Father had left her sorrow, depression, and an antiquated house.
She walked into the building and followed a black cat down to the basement.

Darkness suddenly claimed her sight.
A purple demon materialized out of nowhere, smiling like they were old friends.
The person she’d come to find was nowhere to be found.
There was a sweet fragrance in the house.

"I’ll show you the way out if you really want to leave."

Thus the crayon illustrated story began,
but she couldn’t tell if this was memory or imaginary.

“But if at any moment, you wax nostalgic about your time here,
or wish to preserve any instant for eternity, you lose. ”

Candlestick in hand, she now has to seize the faintest trail to escape from this nightmare.

It's an interesting game, they do a good job of making you feel like the main character would in such a predicament. I love horror but I typically avoid it in games because its too intense for me, but this game relies more on the story to be scary rather than trying to induce a heart attack with lots of jump scares. So I was able to enjoy what the game had to offer. The only downside is a lack of skip on any cutscene or dialogue and there isn't any escape options if you reopen a book you've already read. This gets very annoying if you are trying to get multiple endings because u will have to re-do entire sequences and dialogue with no way out of it.

I originally got this without knowing anything about it because it was free and sounded interesting but oh my god, I am so whipped for this game. The atmosphere is amazing, the soundtrack works SO well and is so vibey, the puzzles are engaging and well-integrated into the setting, and it's all just the right amount of weird and creepy that I adore. I didn't really know what to expect going into it since I picked it up on a whim, but it immediately surpassed all of my expectations in the best way! I would happily pay real money for this game so the fact that it's free on top of being so well-crafted is amazing -- everyone who worked on this game should be proud of themselves!

By far my favorite game of the 2D horror rpg genre. The music, the ambience, the story, everything is top notch. I cannot recommend it enough and, over 10 years later, I still can't believe it doesn't cost a cent (I also highly recommend getting the Artbook, it's lovely). I can't express how much I love this game and how, over 10 years later, I still play it from time to time. It's not the kind of game you'd expect to have replayability, but you just can't help coming back to it. 10/10 - Doesn't get any better than this imo

A real hidden gem, I would love it to have more popularity. The mysteries and eerie ambience makes it so surreal and wonderfull to play.

seems to be a few glitches that still need sorting out. From the very first opening cutscene, text boxes appeared but no text showed up.
