[i]This is the [b]16th[/b] review of the Steam Redlight series, a series where I purposely seek out negatively or controversially rated games on Steam to see if they're as bad as the Internet says they are. [h2]Introduction[/h2] In Grimtale Island, you play as a nameless, faceless character on one of two islands - one named [i]Starter Island[/i] and the other named [i]Grimtale Island[/i]. I started off on the Starter Island to learn the core gameplay mechanics then moved onto Grimtale since that’s the title island. Once you’ve chosen your island, you’ll be spawned at a predetermined spawn location to start out your new life. "Grimtale Island" is a badly made survival game almost certainly kitbashed from some Unreal template or other, with a bunch of, yeah, you guessed it, flipped assets. It's a janky, unfinished mess, and despite not being in Early Access, comes across as more unfinished than most abandoned Early Access projects here on Steam. The game graphics look better than you might expect, but that's just because it looks like some or all of them are "borrowed" from asset stores or wherever. Gamers can tell... and it comes across as insincere. There's also the old adage that those who lack the budget and talent to make their own game assets usually lack the budget and talent to do the rest of the job of game development properly, too. It's free... now, but it wasn't before. The developer was charging $7 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It's a nice gesture for the game to be given away for free, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. its not fully done but it hits what is going for and i have to say its not that bad it could be better but its still pretty fun
