Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice VR Edition

The game’s VR porting is weird, yet decent and enjoyable!

Finished: Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice VR Edition on Arch Linux with Valve Index. Even in VR, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice remains a story-driven standout. The narrative is gripping, and virtual reality amplifies the already intense atmosphere. The standout feature is the voices in Senua’s head: in VR, they feel spatially real – coming from behind or beside you – often making you instinctively turn around. Combat feels just as heavy and impactful as in the desktop version, without being overly complex. Technically, the game runs well on a Valve Index under Arch Linux. Its main weakness is the lack of player agency: no inventory, no NPCs, no dialogue systems, and no progression mechanics. Puzzles are simple and somewhat repetitive, mostly involving spotting rune shapes in the environment, with occasional VR friction due to perspective. With a playtime of around 8 hours, the experience is also relatively short. However, the focused pacing helps maintain the strong atmosphere and prevents the game from overstaying its welcome. Bottom line: an audiovisually outstanding, deeply immersive experience – but closer to interactive cinema than a traditional game. 9/10

Wow, what a game. Playing this in VR was seriously awesome, and some of the later dark sections were extra scary with my bigscreen beyond OLED. The game itself I wasnt initially wow'd by, but the further I got, the more I enjoyed the game. Very special. Still looks pretty damn good in 2026 as well.

Really cool to be able to play in in vr. What i didnt like maybe i did something wrong in settings is that the combat controls where on the left joystick very confusing for a right handed person. Further this is a gem we all know it but its a bit tiring in vr. Theres so much going on rain flashes darkness light that it tires your eyes and brain very easy. all in all 9/10

Absolutely stellar acting throughout this game. Even better if you watch the behind the scenes, especially of the voice actors and how they film the "voices in the head". Great story telling, some nice challenges, wonderful atmosphere, interesting combat. The hard mode is super satisfying. Overall a true experience of a game. Cannot recommend more.
