What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
Players praise the game's beautiful art style, relaxing atmosphere, charming music, and unique herding mechanics, with many enjoying the emotional connection to their named creatures. However, common complaints include awkward and clunky controls that make herding feel unsatisfying, poor tutorial and explanation of mechanics that leave players confused about progression, and a steep price for a roughly 3-hour experience, though several note it becomes a better value on sale.
very nice atmospheric rich game. minimal interface, somewhat simiar to journey. Minor technical issues with one crash, stuttering. Snow/Fog is sometimes too much.
This is another game where it's about the journey, not the destination, and the entire journey was absolutely breathtaking. I absolutely adore this game, and it immediately became one of my all time favorites. If you're a big fan of games like Journey, and you love animals, you're going to love this. The mechanics are simple, and fun. It doesn't take too much skill to enjoy the game, which I consider a huge plus because I'm here for the experience, world, and designs. This is just an amazing and beautiful game, you can pet the Calicorns, you take care of them, and there's so many little things they didn't have to add in but the effort paid of because I fell in love with these creatures. The creators did such a good job with this, it gave me feelings I haven't felt for games in a long time, and I'm so grateful.
boring and short
ok herdling is from the ppl who made FAR, n u can tell, its got that "no dialogue, bu still mazing" thing going ur this silent kid n u find these buffalo lookin creatures called calicorns, one has literal trash stuck on its face n u free it n thats ur first buddy. u name them n everything which is a mistake bc u will get attached whole game is just herding these guys thru an abandoned city n up into the mountains using like a stick w flowers on it lol, sounds simple n it kinda is but its satisfying getting the herd to actually listen n move together fair warning tho, u can lose calicorns along the way. cliffs, ice, these creepy owl birds that hunt them, starvation, and once ur attached to em (which u will be bc u named them) losing one actually stings a lil visuals are gorgeous, city looks all grey n dead but once u get out into nature it opens up n gets real pretty, soundtrack's also really good its short, like a one sitting kinda game, very linear so dont expect replay value, but for the few hours it lasts its a solid emotional lil journey recommended if u liked journey or FAR n want another "no words just feelings" type game
Some games you play for 9 hours but it feels like 3 hours. Some you play for 3 hours, but feel like 9. Idk, I didn't really know what to expect but this one didn't land for me. its a beautiful world for sure, but I didn't really feel any connection with the heard of Calicorns. Not every game needs to have impressive gameplay elements and an interesting story, but any game should probably be trying to have one or the other... Heardling doesn't really seem to even try. its just moderately interesting world building with no real story or gameplay. kinda felt more like a really impressive student project than an actual game. And maybe one could even let that slide, for maybe $5, not ~$30.
Very good game
