Hex Blast is like crack, but a videogame. It is fully turn-based, so you have time to think. The music is so chill, you barely realise the hours are whiling away. Each of the different characters you can play as has their own interesting quirks. (I sat the whole time cackling with laughter the first time I played Vectra.) And right now it's only 85p on sale! You'd be stupid not to buy it.
One of the more interesting Tower Defense titles I have played in recent times. You start out as a "babe in the woods" and then go through an (enjoyable) learning process. You really have to think your way through. Notwithstanding, I think the title is badly named as the title suggest a shoot 'em up (and I only found it by chance).
Hex Blast, developed and published by Soy Boy Games, is a thoughtful blend of roguelike deckbuilding and turn-based tactical play that distinguishes itself through its use of a hexagonal grid. While it shares some structural DNA with popular card battlers, it quickly establishes its own identity by making positioning just as important as card selection. The result is a game that constantly asks you to think in two dimensions at once—what you play and where you place it—turning each turn into a layered decision rather than a simple action. At the center of the experience is a defensive scenario: you control a unit holding back waves of enemies advancing across a confined battlefield. Each turn, you draw cards from your deck and place them onto the hex grid, triggering attacks, abilities, or environmental effects. Unlike traditional deckbuilders, where cards resolve immediately and abstractly, Hex Blast ties every action to a physical location. This creates a strong sense of spatial awareness, as positioning can amplify or weaken the effectiveness of your moves. A well-placed card can trigger chain reactions across adjacent tiles, while a poorly chosen spot can waste valuable resour…
Good!
This game has so many synergies and so many possibilities. Can't wait to explore more.
Fun little addictive game. Each character is unique with their own sets of cards. I'm pretty sure you can break all the characters - especially the last one to the point where you're just ending turns and clearing the board each time. Runs are pretty quick at sub 20 mins. Great game at a great price.
