Highlands, Deep Waters

The problems some others who said "not recommended" had with it didn't really bother me. I liked the story enough; I've always been a sucker for ones that mess with time and clearly have a lot of branching paths, even if it's linear and very obvious when there's an intended final move. It was incredibly easy for me to overlook the flaws, including the ones detailed below and the ones listed by others, just due to the original concept and narrative execution. The typos are not that egregious; they don't show up enough that the game is any harder to play, and they aren't bad enough that a word is too warped to understand. While stats do exist and a degree of career customization that in theory affects your moves, it didn't ultimately affect my decisions much and served more as headcanon. That said, I found it somewhat hard to engage in, mainly because there isn't a core character base. The only real constant is you - that is, the two main characters you create - and Alex, your client, and even he doesn't show up much because he spends much of the game waiting for you to figure stuff out on your own. I would pay someone by the hour to write me another game like this. Such a shame that true cosmic horror works are hard to come by.

But DO keep in mind that this entry is all about the mystery/solving things, which I think threw some people off. A lot of effort was put into this title, specifically in ways you may not notice upon your first playthrough. A negative reviewer said the archetypes "don't matter" but that's just ... wrong. The archetypes notice different clues and know unique bits of background information compared to other archetypes. Some even get new/different choices at multiple points. But this is something you literally can't know until your second playthrough. Even how you walk around inside of a building tends to matter and changes some outcomes! Ultimately, the game -will- push you forward in some way. There are some points where I felt forced to continue, even if I wanted to leave an area. I understand why that was done, but I would have preferred for the game to let me fail to find important evidence because I was being a chicken. Clearly written by an American with next to no understanding of Scottish village life, this includes the shocking way they have shown the "accent" in text which doesn't match up with where the story is set
