I am not a Monster: First Contact

Ill give it a thumb up in general. BUT I got it in the 2026 STEAM summer sale, so i cant complain much about the price/value as long as the game just runs. However, "the servers" are dead, so we can no longer enjoy the multiplayer mode. I really wish i had bought it before, as i had considered that for a cple of years every now and then. According to what i heard from others, multiplayer used to be a major part of the game. It supposedly added most of the replay value, plus the usual extra fun that comes from playing in co-op with others. If thats what you were looking for, you might be disappointed. Plus it seems half the achievements are in MP mode. The usual nonsense going from "kill someone in mp mode bc chances are not eveyone plays mp to begin with" to i dont even want to know what else. Makes me wonder what the game cost before. Same same price, but different value? Or is it just 50% and less of the former price now, bc of the "reduced content" due to inacessible mp mode? If you're hankering for some Flash Gordon vibes, go for it. But as a game, it's slow, clunky and dull, lacking lots of basic QOL features to make it enjoyable.

beautiful retro aesthetic, fun isometric sci-fi dungeon crawler. great storied episodic content all in a wonderful package, and I've barely scratched the surface

Looks like this game no longer has some features available due to its age (8years) but it works on my ARM surface and is both beautiful, engaging, funny, and fun to play 9/10

UPDATE: I've been stuck at the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ engine/spacewalk mission for MONTHS now. I can no longer recommend this game. The only way to progress in these IMPOSSIBLE single-player quests is to deliberately fail each mission 3 times, until you can get the option to lower difficulty, essentially making your team invulnerable. Ruins the fun, no doubt. But the scenarios are literally unwinnable without it. INITIAL REVIEW: Seriously one of the hardest single-player campaigns I've ever played. Which makes it ♥♥♥♥♥♥' orgasmic when you finally win a mission - but be ready to fail over and over until you figure out a new trick for each level. TIP: Play with opening and closing doors coupled with smart rifles and recon sentrys.
