About KAMUI
The mysterious object that had shimmered in the blue sky for countless generations and was worshiped by men as a god was in fact a massive man-made structure. And now, the silent vigil that was thought would last forever has come to an end.
Centuries have passed since the events of RefleX and mankind has once again attained civilization. Now, ancient technology born of a twisted mind sets in motion a chain of events designed to bring divine retribution down upon mankind. The key to bring forth the annihilation is KAMUI, a fighter craft based on ‘Xaffiquel Theory” brain fusion technology. This twin-tined instrument of mankind's destruction carries a terrible secret that ironically will prove to be mankind’s only hope for salvation.

Game old as the streets but aren't they all in this genre. Still worth it though? After a completed run the answer is a clear YES. But this game is advanced class again. If unsure and new to the genre don't start with this as this one is demanding as it requires lots of memorization and just plain good reading ability of what is going on if you intend to work towards that 1CC. It feels like there is in every level something that wants to plasma beam zap you to oblivion as you juggle with the main mechanics of the game: A weak main gun, a bullet canceling lightning attack that fires straight constantly as you reload it. Then there are enemies moving below you that you need to send missiles against. If you dont then they will later come up to your level and swarm you. Even bosses sometimes are multi-story enemies where the top is dishing ammo at you and you fire missiles on the bottom part all at the same time. With this kind of cocktail you get some of the most memorable, hectic. b*lls to the wall experience in the genre that will stick with you and it takes some 30minutes to do a run too. But it's not easy, early on you get the 'how am i supposed to manage this?' -feeling with th…6 found this helpful
Kamui. ALLTYNEX Second. RefleX. The history of both this game and its two counterparts, together forming a sublimely-crafted trilogy of JP shooters, is fascinating. I wonder what Siter Skain, the original JP indie team responsible for developing these in the late 90s, are up to now. Lots of comparisons to Rayforce and Layer Section, and that is understandable - just look at the ship, even. But the reason I like this game is that it took me right back to Soukyugurentai (or Terra Diver for some of you). That game became one of my favourite STG games and I think Kamui is actually closer to this in terms of cinematic presentation, music and satisfying explosion SFX. It is tight and a glimpse into an era of top-tier Japanese style shooters. They don't make them like this anymore. For anyone confused about the order in which to play the trilogy, for learning curve you can go Kamui > RefleX > ALLTYNEX Second (Kamui is the hardest to master and the others have a higher level of polish). This is the order in which they were chronologically developed, with Kamui being 1999. Reverse this order if you actually wish to experience the story in chronological order. ALLTYNEX is first …
Best 2 Euros I've spent in my life. Whoever posted bad reviews is out of their ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ minds. Deserves full psyhchological evaluation. Killer soundtrack , insane mechanics ( swiching from top to botom shooting + the combined lightning ray that clears the screen of impossible bullets ) and mind bogling lore and visuals. Took me back to my Battle Garega and Dondonpachi days. What a game!
Fantastic game. For a doujin output, it is one of the most refined in its mechanics in the genre.
played this game in early 2000's. game was initially released at comiket57, i got the disc around c59 or c60 (cant really remember) game is kind of a RayForce clone, but the bgm alone is worth the price.
KAMUI is a tightly focused vertical shoot ’em up that reflects both the strengths and traditions of the Japanese doujin shooter scene. Developed by SITER SKAIN and published by Henteko Doujin, the game delivers an experience that is unapologetically arcade-driven, placing mechanical mastery, pattern recognition, and replayability above narrative ambition or visual excess. From the first moments, it establishes a tone of speed and precision, demanding that players engage fully with its systems rather than easing them in gently. At its core, KAMUI is built around fluid movement and relentless bullet patterns that require constant attention. The player pilots a futuristic combat craft through vertically scrolling stages filled with layered enemy formations and dense projectile spreads. What sets the game apart from many other shooters is its dual-plane combat system, which introduces an additional dimension to decision-making. Enemies can exist on different depth layers, forcing players to juggle standard forward fire with a lock-on lightning attack that targets foes in deeper planes. This mechanic adds a subtle but meaningful layer of strategy, as survival depends not only on dodgin…
