If you've never played this game and want to get anything worthwhile from it, install the Resurgence of the Volcano mod, it actually fixes a lot of the issues of the original and adds new content that is comparable to the stuff from Round 2 in terms of quality. That being said, it turns a 4/10 game into a 6-7/10 one (hehe, six seven), so don't get your expectations too high if you don't have any nostalgia for it. I still had a blast, so I'm leaving a positive note, and if Chaos Flask team is reading this, you guys are great, this expansion was really fun.

this games awful. the controls are terrible. the enemies are too numerous and not fun to kill. and its just overly painful expeernce this game feels like a beta it nice for once but if you honestly want it as a good game sorry but no. thankfully the publishers...or devs eventually made a better game

So, we’re here, aren’t we? I sometimes start off with an introduction before I get into the thick-of-it, but I’m not going to do that this time because I was already braindead after finishing “Kao 3: Mystery of the Volcano.” Also, this review does say “Not Recommended,” but that does not mean I don’t want you playing it. Like I said in my review of “Kao 1,” I encourage you to play it for yourselves and come up with your own thoughts and conclusions. If you like “Kao 3” more than “Round 2,” then I also encourage you to keep playing. So, with that being said, let’s get started. Presentation So, I actually started a review on “Kao: Round 2” before starting this one. Why am I mentioning this? Well, to anyone who has ever played “Round 2,” you’d probably look at this game’s graphics and think that Kao’s animations and the environments look almost similar to its predecessor. However, instead of the previous running animation and the helmet and shoes with wings, Kao has a different running animation (which looks like he is jogging) and a paraglider, like what Sly Cooper has in “Sly’s 2, 3, and Thieves in Time.” Speaking of which, Kao is sporting a different look in this game,…

Kao: Mystery of the Volcano is the 3rd installment of the Kao franchise which regresses in some aspects from Kao 2, but is still a better game then Kao 1. Whilst the game expands on some of Round 2’s mechanics and even ads a few new mechanics of its own, the game strips away a lot of the ideas of the second game to focus more on fluid, uninterrupted exploration using nothing more then what’s on your belt and the full control of Kao this time around. On top of that, the game is significantly shorter then both Kao 1 and 2 with a total of four fully fleshed out levels, four mini-games, and one boss fight, and whilst I think there is a lot of substance to this rib, it is, overall, less meat compared to the first 2 entries clocking in 4 hours of game play total. Story: The story this time around is a rescue mission for your pelican co pilot who fell into the mouth of the volcano forcing Kao to collect all four keys whilst battling the giant Lava Monster that wreaks havoc on the island. It is nothing to wright home about, it is just a serviceable plot (like the last two games) that exists to add context to your adventure. Gameplay: the gameplay here is the typical formula for a 3D pl…

Kao the Kangaroo: Mystery of the Volcano (2005 re-release), developed and published by Tate Multimedia, is a revived slice of early-2000s platforming that carries both the charm and the limitations of its era. Originally released at a time when mascot-driven 3D platformers were still finding their footing beyond genre-defining hits, this installment attempts to broaden the scope of the series with larger environments and a more adventure-oriented structure. The modern re-release doesn’t significantly overhaul the experience, instead presenting it largely as it was—making it as much a historical revisit as it is a playable game. The story follows Kao, the energetic kangaroo outfitted with his signature boxing gloves, as he becomes entangled in a crisis involving a volatile volcanic region. The narrative is simple and direct, leaning on the familiar “save the land from disaster” setup without adding much complexity. Dialogue and character interactions are light, serving more to move the player between levels than to build emotional stakes. That said, Kao himself remains a likable presence, embodying the cheerful, adventurous spirit typical of platforming mascots from that period. G…
