About King Lucas
Search randomly generated castle layouts hand-crafted room by room to rescue lost princesses, battling monsters and solving environmental puzzles across progressively larger areas. Compete solo or multiplayer against friends to find each princess first, upgrade your gear, uncover hidden story through quirky NPCs, and experience retro metroidvania action with modern 2.5D graphics.
Play for the favour of King Lucas and the three princesses' love. A castle will be randomly built and you must find them inside a little area of it. You can move horizontally and vertically through the rooms until you reach your goal. Once you succeed, the castle will become a little bit more difficult: a larger area will be unlocked... and the experience will become more hardcore when the princess becomes lost inside a fully unlocked castle with more than 1,000 rooms.
Features:
- Get money and buy upgrades such us compasses and crystal balls, more weapons such us magical sticks and swords, or harder shields to protect yourself from the giant spiders, the armored rats, the piranhas and the many other haunted beings in the castle.
- Enroll for collective multiplayer searches where you will be able to compete with your friends or with other unknown players. It’s simple: one princess, one winner... the first to find her.
- Talk and interact with a lot of NPCs who will play different funny and unexpected roles through your quest (yes, there's some hidden story underneath the arcade!).
We absolutely love retro gaming and this has been engrained in King Lucas's DNA. This is a metroidvania game with 2.5D graphics and classic game mechanics for the delight of platform, action and adventure games lovers as well as you who didn't live the 80's and 90's; this is an opportunity for you to taste a bit of that classic feeling with the graphics and sound quality of today.
King Lucas' castle is made up of hundreds of interconnected rooms, which are reconfigured every time a new search begins. These rooms have been hand designed one by one (we don´t use procedural level design!) and there's no two equal gameplays. Lava pits, water tunnels, ladders, traps... this castle has become a deadly place since the queen left.
You know, simple platformer with knight. Not bad but not good either.
3 found this helpful
King Lucas is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere (although, this one does have some low poly 3D backgrounds to supplement the 2D character assets). This is a console (Switch) ported, partially procedurally generated metroidvania, where each castle is randomly constructed of a number of bespoke, handmade rooms. Problematically this procgen works against the general metroidvania theme of the game. One important note is that even though this is an amateur project, it does seem to be sincerely and genuinely made. I couldn't find any flipped assets, plagiarism or any other kind of insincere actions from the developer, but unfortunately genuine intentions alone are not enough to produce a brilliant PC gaming experience. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The game assets are far from bleeding edge, with lowish polygon counts and somewhat low resolution textures, making this look like it's at least 10 years old. It's unclear why the developers weren't able to arrange high quality, high polygon coun…3 found this helpful

King Lucas, developed and published by DevilishGames, is a retro-inspired 2.5D action-adventure game that combines elements of metroidvania exploration with challenging platforming mechanics. Released on December 1, 2016, the game offers a unique experience where players take on the role of a knight tasked with navigating a sprawling castle to find the lost daughters of King Lucas. The castle itself is a labyrinth of interconnected rooms, each designed by hand, ensuring that no two playthroughs are alike. The game's narrative is rooted in a whimsical yet tragic backstory. After an affair with the Witch of Sausan, King Lucas's queen leaves him, and his daughters are left to roam the vast castle. Driven by love and guilt, King Lucas enlists brave knights to venture into the castle and rescue his daughters whenever they get lost. Players embody these knights, embarking on quests that range from straightforward rescues to more complex missions involving puzzles and combat. Gameplay in King Lucas revolves around exploration and resource management. The castle is procedurally generated, with over 1,000 rooms that players must navigate. To aid in their quest, players can acquire various…1 found this helpful
Good fun two d knights, has nice graphics
A shallow attempt to a metroidvania game. It gets really boring after the first two levels because of the grinding for coins and keys. Enemies (mini bosses included) are very easy to kill when you have a sword or an axe, and very difficult with the default knife because of the range. The biggest issue comes from the absolute madness with closed doors in your path. You can avoid most of them but it's such a chore to do it that, if getting coins to buy keys wasn't so difficult, you would rather go for the doors. And you will need many keys to rescue each princess. Pray that you have enough when you find them. Good attempt but this game should be free instead. Better get Rogue legacy.
