About Monster Outbreak

The Dimensional Orb was a promise of wealth and knowledge beyond humanity's wildest dreams, hidden away from all until it was discovered and brought to the king. Being human, the king was easily tempted, and for a time the promise held true. Riches, knowledge, and incredible stories flowed into the Kingdom thanks to the Orb… but then came the monsters.
Lots and lots of monsters.

Monster Outbreak is a pixel top-down survival game. Take control of Yulia, the last surviving member of the Royal Guard, and confront the endless monster hordes spawned by the out-of-control Dimensional Orb. Gear up, prepare defenses, lay down traps, cook a possible last meal, and try to stay alive.

Go at it alone - or enlist fellow survivors, using classic local split screen or online multiplayer.

The last stand of the Royal Guard isn't over - until it's over.
  • Yulia has access to a broad range of weapons to be enchanted, from simple swords and axes to sophisticated bows providing elemental attacks, dealing additional damage and opening new ways of containing the endless waves of enemies.
  • Build up those defenses! Choose from dozens of turrets, including the bomb-javelin launcher, crossbow turret, and bomb slingshot to set up lethal defensive zones.
  • Keep hordes of dimensional horrors at bay with a selection of traps to deploy including spike strips, tripwire bombs, and elemental traps.

If the fort holds (big “if”), send Yulia into the fray beyond its protective shell and clash with the monster hordes.
  • Each wave, eventually, peters out. Use the lull in combat to fix up the base - or venture out, explore, fix bridges, and scavenge the derelict Kingdom.
  • Hunt down monsters for essential components to craft weapons and items to increase the chances of survival - but watch out for brutal bosses that can decide to crash your party at the worst possible moment.

Super close call. The mixed reviews are pretty accurate. All the bad: First off, you can't save in the game, and the games are super long, so I left my computer running for about 4 days straight. I haven't played for 120+ hours; I've probably played around 10, but my computer has been running it for that long. I understand why they didn't implement a save feature—it's difficult. As a programmer, I get it. It's quite buggy. Enemies get stuck, and their attack range can sometimes extend halfway across the map. This happens maybe five times in a long playthrough, requiring you to dive-bomb them. On the second map, a UI popup appears around level 20 and can't be dismissed. The towers sometimes just cost wood, which is nice but clearly a bug. I stuck with the first map to avoid this. Additionally, the hitboxes of grass and flowers were glitchy, which was frustrating. There are some goofy choices. The grinding aspect to unlock towers is excessive. You have tons of resources that can't be used until towers are unlocked. There's a useless pet that follows you around, which seems like a waste of development time. The zoom doesn't go out far enough, and in two-player mode, you can get att…

crafting is worthless since every item you make to defend breaks very easily like there made of glass if you see the game avoid it. devs don't seem to understand put a gear system so defenses can be tuned to be stronger. this was not worth the 3 bucks i found it for. its a lame attempt at a defense game with none of the actual aspects build limit? in open area 10 just means useless for alot of setups gear - trashy cosmetic garbage with little to no impact on gameplay. upgrading build/defenses? nope just generic with no life to it. gameplay gotta be at least fun right? lol for who? its bland. not rewarding.

Monster Outbreak is an indie survival and tower-defense hybrid that blends action combat, crafting, and base construction into a colorful but demanding loop of preparation and survival. Developed and published by GameMunchers, the game positions itself around the familiar rhythm of calm before the storm: gather resources, reinforce your defenses, and brace yourself for another wave of increasingly aggressive monsters pouring out of unstable portals. While it doesn’t radically reinvent the genres it draws from, it combines them with enough flexibility and cooperative potential to create a distinct identity of its own. The narrative framework is intentionally simple and functional. A magical catastrophe has unleashed monsters across the land, leaving you to play as Yulia, one of the last defenders standing against the invasion. Storytelling largely stays in the background, serving more as motivation than as a central feature. Instead of cutscenes or heavy exposition, the game lets its systems do the talking, conveying the sense of desperation through escalating enemy waves and the constant pressure to expand and reinforce your stronghold before it’s overwhelmed. At the heart of Mon…

A rough game to play UI is nothing to write home about, but the balancing of structures and weapons if atrocious.

This game has so much potential, but the controls are just awful. I can't move freely; it's just like very old games with the up/down or right/left controls. The default speed is like not moving at all. The mouse range when building defenses is very short; if you have one 2x2 defense in front of you, you can't place another one above it. If you want to take down a wall, don't put any defense next to it because you will hit the defenses or traps too. You can only attack in one direction; if the tree, rock, or enemy is a pixel to the left, you will not hit, but they will hit you. Forget about protecting yourself or dodging attacks because there is no shield or dash mechanic (not the sword special). It feels clunky to be able to attack only on the exact x/y axis and so slowly. This game demands free movement to be really enjoyed; this is not a 2008 Xbox RPG game. If defenses had a vision range instead of an exact direction with tunnel vision, or if the player movements and attacks were more dynamic (at least attack where you are pointing, not on the x/y axes the player is facing), this could be playable. Because the potential is there and I love the idea, I hope this gets updated an…
