Obscura (2025)

Obscura is a short investigation game that I found surprisingly atmospheric, especially considering how focused the experience is. I play as a medium investigating an unsolved case in a place connected to a tragic event, and the supernatural angle immediately gives the investigation a different feel from a normal detective game. I liked the feeling of slowly uncovering what happened rather than simply being handed a mystery with all the clues laid out for me. The main gameplay revolves around searching the environment for important objects and details. I have to pay attention to what I find because certain objects are connected to memories from the past. I enjoyed this part because the game encourages me to actually examine the surroundings instead of rushing from one objective to another. Even small details can become useful once I understand how they connect to the investigation. The ritual system is probably my favorite mechanic. I collect pieces related to mysterious rituals and use them to trigger visions that reveal fragments of the past. I liked the idea of reconstructing events through supernatural visions because it gives the investigation a more distinctive identity. It…

Cool concept and setting, but terrible execution. Can't change commands and there isn't a proper (even ambiental) tutorial to explain how to perform rituals. I've reached all the three clues but can't perform the final ritual because I can't understand what to do and how to do it.

I managed to figure out the first three rituals, with no guide as to what to do. Stuck on the fourth, gave up. Glad the game was free. I know it's a student production, but some better guides as to what's expected would be great. And ability to reassign key bindings.

An interesting puzzle concept that really makes you think - I was a little too tired for it I think, but confident that I would have gotten there with a little more time and patience that I just didn't have while playing. Really dark story that I commend the team for using and the pieces come together as you explore and find clues. I'm on a QWERTY, but it didn't hurt too much using the arrows, but I needed to find a hint from someone to discover that F exited out of the ritual if you weren't completing with the chosen object. It's a student project and a really interesting concept. I can't be harsh on the issues in those circumstances. A very good effort with an interesting concept and good environmental storytelling.

Not a querty keyboard layout for controls. Fix that i might be able to play it.
