Off-Peak is a compact first-person adventure built around exploration, atmosphere, and interpretation rather than conventional action or elaborate objectives. Developed by Cosmo D and published by Cosmo D Studios, it places the player inside an enormous cathedral-like train station in a strange near-future world. The immediate problem is straightforward: you are stranded and need to obtain a ticket to leave town. What initially sounds like a simple errand quickly becomes an excuse to wander through one of the more peculiar environments found in an experimental adventure game. The station is packed with unusual people, hidden passages, records, artwork, food, gardens, and architectural details that make simply looking around the primary attraction. Exploration is remarkably unrestricted considering the small scale of the experience. Rather than directing the player through a rigid sequence of objectives, the game presents one interconnected location filled with corners and concealed areas that can be investigated at an individual pace. Off-Peak is less of a videogame and more of a surreal digital art exhibit. It's still a great experience worth at least a playthrough, but don't expect much gameplay. This walking simulator has a lot to offer though that makes it worth your time. The best part of the game, in my opinion, was Archie Pelago's Jazz infused deep house coursing through the veins of the train station you explore, with different songs playing in each section of the station. The place is surreal, with characters to "talk to" (listen to them speak to you) and conversations to overhear. There is art all over the walls and records, music books, and board games to find. I really enjoyed meditating on a lot of the ponderings these odd people espoused and taking my time with the experience. Also of note are the different ways you can go about your experience in Off-Peak leading me to replay the game to nab a few more achievements. Off-Peak's brief - roughly hour long - package is a surreal trip worth taking, with phenomenal music and psychedelic visuals to boot, and at its free price if it looks and sounds enticing to you there's no reason not to get it. Very ensnaring

i played Betrayal at Club Low and Moves of the Diamond Hand first. So then i was interested to play other Cosmo D games, but i was a little bit hesitant because even though i liked the worldbuilding and the art direction, it was the RPG and dice mechanic of those two games that really hooked me, at first. i was open to the-so-called walking simulator. but i was afraid that without those RPG and dice mechanic, i will lose half of the thing that made me love Cosmo D works. Then i played this, and oh boy, i was so wrong and full of prejudice. yes, sure, Off-Peak contains very minimal gameplay challenge and "interactivity" variation. The objective is that you just have to search for ticket stubs to board a train to somewhere. And there is only one location, that is the train station. But the station is one hell of a station. It was full of charm and lots of motif that occurred on other Cosmo D game too. Pizza, music, and especially--this one really feels a treat for me-- board game!!!
