Planes, Bullets and Vodka

This is a painfully average arcade shooter that relies entirely on a catchy title to grab your attention. While the retro vertical action works fine for a quick five-minute distraction, it lacks variety in weapons, enemies, and stages. You will see everything the game has to offer within twenty minutes, and then wonder why you bothered.

I thought Planes, Bullets and Vodka was going to be another cheap little arcade shooter where you fly around, shoot things, and eventually get bored. I was wrong. The graphics are simple. The gameplay is simple. The title pretty much tells you exactly what you're getting. Planes. Bullets. Vodka. And somehow, that's enough. There's something incredibly satisfying about flying around while everything on the screen is exploding. The action is fast, chaotic, and completely uninterested in slowing down to explain itself. It's not trying to be the next massive flight simulator. It's not trying to give you a 40-hour story. It gives you a plane, puts enemies in front of you, and basically says: "Good luck." And honestly, I respect that. What I love most is how ridiculous the whole experience is. It's the kind of game where you don't need to think too hard. You just start playing, start shooting, and suddenly you're having way more fun than you expected. I've played games with realistic flight physics, massive campaigns, and complicated progression systems. I don't remember most of them. I'll remember Planes, Bullets and Vodka. Some games try …
