Red Rush

Red Rush is a simple 2D retro pixel city builder/strategy game with a Soviet theme. Gameplay consists of very routine resource and population management, choosing which buildings to buy etc etc. It's been done to death, but a lot better by others. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. The quality here is so poor, while it might even look tolerable for a game from the 1980s, this came out in 2020. They must be having some kind of joke. Red Rush is over optimistically priced at a whopping $7 …

Not only is there no sense of purpose in the game, it's frustrating to play since the large menu at the bottom of the screen covers half the map and only goes away when it feels like it. Also it feels like you can suddenly lose the game at any time without much warning, making you wonder whether it's even worth starting another game.

There are better city builders out there. This one isn't bad, it has a great premise,, but execution is very rough around the edges, and considering the competition this title has, I can't recommend it.

Actually a VERY bad game. Don't buy it even with a 80% Sale.

Really fun little city builder/resource management game, but there is very little content. Oddly, there is no endgame, which seems kind of necessary when you have limited space and can't upgrade buildings. I was able to completely use every pixel of land I could in the first 3 years of the game, and after that, there was just no reason to continue playing. Very fun, but don't expect to get more than an hour or two out of it.
