Regions of Ruin is a 2D side-scrolling RPG with town-building where you are introduced to an open world that progressively challenges your hero and settlement the further you delve into the vast continent.

You will discover a foreboding land ravaged by hundreds of years of hardship. Where, kingdoms have risen and fallen, settlements have been laid to waste and overrun by warring groups, and great mysteries lay hidden and waiting to be unearthed - assuming you can defeat their jealous guardians.

I really like this game, but it's also very finicky and tedious. I enjoy tedium but I don't know if I would recommend it. If you like repetitive gameplay, pixel art, and don't have any vision issues with small UI or small items on the ground, you will probably like this game! It's got the old school charm of opening individual levels to walk right and smack everything to death. There are fun impact-frames, slow-downs and zoom-ins whenever you do crits, and the pixel art is fun. However, the game really doesn't offer anything that other games have. The controls feel clunky (controller recommended) and that can make the combat occasionally feel clunky when you're trying to dash or jump only to find that your character just doesn't respond to the inputs. The game balance feels a little off; it starts out easy then ramps up the difficulty dramatically, then goes super easy again. I'm not even quite sure how I got stronger, just got lucky and found more equipment I guess. Played on Easy so that might just be the difficulty setting. Building the home settlement gets annoying because you can only move right or left, and eventually your buildings get scattered. I find that I'm dashing c…

Broken on 4K. The UI was designed for 480p monitors, the UI scaler breaks a half-dozen UI elements if used, and it doesn't even save the setting.
