it's still fun!2 found this helpful
It's romance of the three kingdoms, game as old as time, and a story even older. This one does the officer thing pretty well, I had fun with it. Controling entire provinces isn't as smooth as it is in some other titles but I heard they go sorta between high strategy and officer level strategy games. I got my money's worth with ROTK13, I bought it on other systems too, sorta wish it shared saves with the playstation version at least but that's a minor quibble. I think rotk8 is supposed to be the better one for country/province/city management but I ahven't played that in ...years. so I can't say I remember if that's true. Long story short, this is a good one. the best of the officer focused ones I've played, but I got an urge to play 8 now too.1 found this helpful
First playthrough, Yellow Turban Rebellion, Dong Zhou does not die before 195, My faction led by Yu Jin becomes the 3rd largest in China behind Sun Jian and Dong Zhou, Cao Cao's clan dies, Yuan Shu's clan dies, Yuan Shao's clan dies, Have 3 coalition wars against Dong Zhou over the span of 10 years in game with an eternal stalemate, Liu Bei's clan dies, I surreder my entire faction into Sun Jian's clan in hopes he can defeat Dong Zhou with our combined man power, Dong Zhou becomes the next emperor of China, Sun Jian dies after a few more decades and Dong Zhou takes everything. 10/10, will play again today.1 found this helpful
First 12 hours was playing the first 4 story campaigns to learn the game and then creating my own characters based on family and friends. Then I started my first (and meanwhile my second) run and I must say its really fun and insanely big. When you start at the bottom as free officer the game plays more like a little relationship game. You get to know people, eventually gift them gifts and become friends until you get recruited or decide to serve under a banner. At first you have few controls over what you do as an officer you just get dragged around and are forced to fight in battles. (like a normal soldier) Then the higher you rise in ranks the more the game becomes a strategy game and the more control you get where to go and what to do while the relationship gameplay is still important. Because now you dont become friends with others because you like them so much but because you want to recruit them in your rulers empire or ally with them. At a point you eventually rose so much in ranks that you now manage your own city while your ruler still wants things to be done but he doesnt force you anymore instead you have the choice if you want to do it or not but you also have to hand…1 found this helpful
fun
Coming from VIII, X, and XI all on ps2, XIII feels like a mix of familiar ground and new experiments. Compared to VIII: VIII gave me that freedom to live as an officer, build bonds, and climb the ranks. XIII brings that back, but with a bigger map and more cinematic presentation. It feels like VIII’s spirit, just dressed up for modern times. Compared to X: X was very task‑oriented, with clear duties and officer life structure. XIII keeps the officer focus but makes it more open‑ended. Instead of menus and assignments, you’re moving across a living map, which is more immersive but sometimes slower. Compared to XI: XI leaned heavily into deep strategy and city management, with a clean, grid‑based battle system. XIII moves away from that depth—it’s less about tight tactical play and more about role‑playing your officer’s journey. If XI was about pure strategy, XIII is about personality and immersion. XIII feels like a return to the officer freedom of VIII and X, but it sacrifices some of the strategic sharpness that XI had. It’s more cinematic, more character‑driven, and while not the deepest in terms of tactical play, it’s one of the most immersive if you want to live insid…
