Players praise RP7's genuinely unique slot-based mechanic that transforms the roguelike genre into something refreshingly original, with accessible yet skill-based gameplay that rewards mastery and offers plenty of build variety. However, some players find the core experience frustrating due to excessively fast pacing, punishing difficulty spikes, overly repetitive random outcomes that feel predetermined, and inconsistent tile mechanics that undermine player agency and create moments of unavoidable failure.
While the game features some creative designs, several critical issues make it exceptionally frustrating, including: 1.Movement Speed is Too Fast The pacing is overly rapid, leaving no room for a relaxed experience. 2.Excessive Difficulty The game is too challenging, and a bit of bad luck can lead to sudden and unexpected failure. 3.Unreasonable Randomness Logic Often, when repeatedly interacting with a single tile, the same outcome is drawn multiple times in a row. This makes players feel their efforts are futile, leading to extremely high levels of frustration. Shouldn't each draw at least yield a different result? 4.Inconsistent Tile Rotation Mechanism When the hero steps on the 6th tile and moves to the right, the 6th tile cannot rotate. Only when the hero reaches the 7th tile does the 6th tile become rotatable. However, after just 3 seconds, the hero steps on the 6th tile again. In this short 3-second window, players hardly have time to perform effective actions, making the state almost entirely random. Similarly, when the hero steps on the 2nd tile and moves left, the same problem occurs. In other words, the game's 7 tiles each have different d…14 found this helpful
Had lots and lots of fun. I got this game during early access, and while there isn't the FULL GAME, and some balancing still has to be done, I can say with confidence that the concept this game brings is incredibly unique, interesting, and fun. To give an idea of how the game works: there are only 7 important buttons (thats why its called RP7) excluding the escape key, and the shift key that lets you "sprint" (which isn't really important anyways). Your character moves automatically, and you can reroll any tile you want on the map. It takes a shocking amount of skill to spam the reroll button to get what you want, and not accidentally reroll past what you want. Very unique mechanics come out of this system seen in no other average game: boss attacks being represented as rollable tiles, obstacles that get more dangerous the more you reroll a tile, and enemies that lock tiles so you cant change them. I played for about 4 hours, and plan to play a bit more. This game is early access, and so I am happy paying 15$ for 4 hours of fun, added with being able to play the full version in the future. From what i've read, there are 10 bosses, 3 playable characters, and eventually ther…3 found this helpful
RP7: Spin Your Own Encounter is an unconventional roguelike RPG that takes a familiar genre foundation and transforms it into something surprisingly original. Developed by Turtle Cream and published by IndieArk, the game abandons traditional exploration mechanics in favor of a slot-based encounter system where players influence the journey through spinning reels that determine the events ahead. Rather than directly guiding a hero through a dungeon, players effectively shape the hero’s fate by selecting and managing encounters, creating a unique blend of strategy, randomness, and resource management. The game's central mechanic revolves around seven encounter slots that generate opportunities and dangers. Every spin can reveal enemies, treasure, healing options, merchants, equipment, or unexpected obstacles. What initially appears to be a game of luck gradually reveals itself as a tactical experience where careful planning is often more important than favorable rolls. Players must constantly evaluate which encounters are worth pursuing and which should be avoided, balancing immediate rewards against long-term survival. This system gives the game a distinctive identity and ensures t…1 found this helpful
An actually unique roguelite. The main mechanic is well done, and there's a ton of variety in builds you can do. While spinning the slots while your character is moving might seem stressful at first, you can basically pick the game speed and play at your own pace. I like the fastest option, no pain no gain. There's also a high skill ceiling with the game, you get better at spinning the slots to find an ideal outcome as you play. It's the sort of a easy-to-use hard-to-master type of thing. I can see someone being insanely good at it if they play a long time. There's also some "secret" ways to interact with this system, it's fun discovering and using them. The enemy, boss, and item variety are pretty good. In particular, I find the item sacrifice and upgrade mechanics a welcome touch. After each area, you must sacrifice one item, so you need to plan for that. Upgrading items can go on multiple paths (Type A or Type B), so while holding onto something may not work well for your build in the beginning, it certainly can later. If you're looking for an actually unique roguelite, this one is probably for yew.
Incredibly innovative yet so simple! RP7 takes the now well trodden complexities and difficulties of a roguelike and spins it into an original take that is both casual and hectic fun for everyone. I highly recommend playing with friends too, splitting up the 7-tiles so each person is responsible for their set.
This is a fun and light-hearted RPG which continues to surprise with every turn of the wheel. You spin slots which determine whether you will pick up health, fight an opponent and so on. Split the controls to play with a friend or turn the speed up to the max for the ultimate chaotic challenge. I really rate this game for how approachable and accessible it is.
