SaGa Emerald Beyond

I can understand, with how things are these days, how people could dislike this game. Its story telling approach is a bit barebones, it has a low budget feel, etc. However, none of that really matters if you really dig into what the game has to offer. The combat system is incredibly fun, the world design is very intricate, and the overall experience is fantastic if you take the time to understand it. As an aside, the way the narrative is given I think actually gives the game more freedom than if everything was fully animated and voice acted. If you can get past the fact that it's not Red Dead Redemption 2 or whatever people are comparing things to these days, what you are left with is something that I wish more games did. Gameplay and depth over high fidelity presentation for me any day. And the battles look good still, so it's not that the game doesn't have good looking graphics. Anyways, I whole-heartedly encourage people to give this game a shot, and they may actually enjoy themselves.

Ah, SaGa games that make sense...mostly. Going from a storybook TTRPG to a more Planescape one, EB has a loose...plot? Maybe? We need a Vaatividya for these things...anywho, its funny, betrayals happen, alot of open-ended world-building happens, vignettes ala Dragon Quest happen. It's good if you take it at face value, just dont expect linearity. Now, the combat and character building did the SaGa thing of throwing decades of series concepts into a big vat, but also having Trade and Train functions to keep your team and gear up to date for new strats for this really neat take on combat. Its a 3D timeline. That you and the enemies fight over to "link" together and stop the other. Really goes well with the older stuff like Conditionals and moving characters around the timeline. Also has the best song, not of video games, but of 2024. Ito's really hit a new level now with this "defend your dissertation on the game's systems against the end boss while amazing tunes play" like how Hamauzu did it.

I cant believe I dropped 50 dollars for this game I love saga I was so excited to play this and I shoulder have done more research first. Feels like a super low budget game, the UI is just horrific its really jarring how the mouths dont move when they speak in scenes and just walking around a low budget map just interacting with points? What were they thinking they did a better job of making worlds on the playstation 1. Dont make my mistake thoroughly research this before purchase

This turned based RPG is worth your time if you can accept what it is trying to do. First and foremost this game is all about its incredible combat system and subsystems that support it. I might go as far to say it is the best turn based JRPG combat you will find due to its depth, customization, and speed of action that provides a fun experience throughout many hours of play (see my play time for example). Perhaps as important as the gameplay, going in you must understand that REPLAYS ARE EXPECTED AND PART OF THE EXPERIENCE. You should expect to play through the game with the different protagonists, some multiple times, to see the whole story. The good thing is the gameplay keeps it interesting throughout that span. If you are going for secret hidden bosses and endings, the additional time spent might get to be a bit much. The caveat here is with the focus on combat being so high, some other aspects of your traditional JRPG experience get compressed and streamlined, which may not be appreciated by all. Probably the most complex JRPG out there. Incredible battle system, and the "scenario" system probably doesnt work like you'd expect. You re-run them and often end up playing 95% different scenarios each time, as the world revolves around your development and your choices. Is it the highest budget game out there? Definitely not. But it's probably better than most games with 100x the budget. Also works well on the Steam Deck if you're into that.

says it supports my dualsense controller, but it does not, it shows the xbox icons. allegedly a dualshock controller shows the correct icons? i was iffy on this game as it is and this is a great example of why you just need to allow to pick the icons you want, as it's a core accessibility feature that is very easy to do and smooths over any weird edge cases (especially since steam input likes to identify as an xbox controller even when it's not one). as such im asking for a refund, how does this 2024 game not support dualsense controllers
