What Steam players say
Recent verbatim reviews from Steam — separate from playze.io community reviews below.
Players praise the game's exceptional sailing and map travel mechanics, engaging pirate experience, and surprising depth in dialogue and exploration, making it a standout in the genre despite dated graphics. Common complaints center on aging visuals that don't translate well to modern displays, clunky controls, and technical issues like flickering shadows that persist even with mod attempts to fix them. Many feel the core experience remains strong enough to overlook these flaws, though players acknowledge the game's age shows and wish it had received modern updates or a proper remake.

ok so an hour and a half in i have thoughts.. the tactical sailing w map travel feature.. phenominal. why cant other games nail travel like this one. true gem even for full price. realistic sea battle minus the health bar but hey even naval action kinda uses them. sword fighting is well.. its there. more than i can say for some.. COUGHCOUGH S and B... seems u can make landfall near anywhere tho thats cool. only complaint really is flickering shadows for ppl in movement on land. tried mods to fix but it just crashes that way. honestly small price to pay, albeit VERY annoying. if ur even remotely interested in pirate games and can get past dated "not bad at all tho" graphics with awesome gameplay dont think just buy. u can have more dialog than fallout as well if thats ur thing2 found this helpful
Such a great pirate game, if you can get past the early 2000s graphics and the weirder translation, its amazing. ive put 200 hours into this game with the gof 1.3 mod.
Played it when I was much younger. Played it recently with all of the patches and final changes. This game is absolutely outstanding pirate experience. Remaster of characters, islands and characters will be a nice addition )
its what started my love for pirates
This was one of my favorite series growing up (it had a different name back then). It doesn’t age great on modern monitors and the controls feel a bit clunky, but if you can overlook that, or find a mod, it’s still an amazing pirate/corsair experience. Sadly, the studio is gone, so no updates or new games… Imagine this with modern graphics 😢
