Season After Fall is a small game in scope, but one that leaves a surprisingly lasting impression thanks to its artistic identity, its atmosphere, and the elegance of its design. It is a 2D adventure-puzzle game in which you play as a fox, and that simple idea is enough to give the whole experience a very clear personality from the start. What makes it stand out is not complexity, but intention: every element feels carefully shaped, and the result is a game that knows exactly what it wants to be. The gameplay is straightforward, but in the best possible way. The seasonal mechanic is easy to understand, yet it is used with enough creativity to keep the experience engaging throughout. The puzzles are never about overwhelming the player with systems or mechanics; instead, they work as part of the world itself, blending naturally with the environment and supporting the overall rhythm of the adventure. That sense of balance is one of the game’s greatest strengths. It does not try to be bigger than it is, and because of that, it succeeds as a focused, refined, and genuinely memorable experience. What really gives the game its value is its direction artistica. The visual style is be…7 found this helpful
I would really like to recommend this game, but I just can't. It has a really beautiful art style, and the music is also quite nice. But it commits the ultimate sin of being a platformer with smushy and delayed inputs. It feels horrible to play. In the end, the summer spirit firefly puzzle did it for me.2 found this helpful
Great game: Astonishing art and music Loved the animations Cute fox!🦊 The game keeps surprising with how well thought-out and varied it is, finished it in one sitting As others have mentioned, there's an input delay, but it doesn't get in the way, since the platforming is forgiving and not overly demanding - had no problems with it with an fps cap at 120
It has BEAUTIFUL artwork, the sound design is really nice, the little fox you play as is adorable- OH. MY. GOD. the platforming (the main mechanic of the game) is HORRIBLE. Sometimes when you press jump it just... doesn't happy! So then you fall all the way back down and have to make your way back up. And then you fall back down because the jump button isn't working. I want to say that I'm not just writing a bad review because I'm personally crappy at the parkour. I've played a few other platformers, and I'm usually not great, but I'm not gonna give a bad review because of that. But from what I've seen in other reviews, a lot of other people have a problem with the jump mechanic. This is a game I will probably watch on the tube so I can look at the art and learn the lore, but I won't touch it myself with a five ft pole.
Seasons after Fall: 10 out of 10
Seasons after Fall is a decent platformer with a mechanic where you change the seasons, and thereby the environment by barking as a tiny fox. The art direction has generated a beautiful world which is most of the value of the playthrough. On the less positive side, the sound direction is fine, but not standout. A desire not to despoil the visual world with anything too pragmatic probably led to the decision to have a narrator, but that decision was a really bad one, imo. It makes the entire world "tell not show" in a sense, and vastly decreases my satisfaction with the game. I wish that they'd invested the effort to do their storytelling without a narrator. However, it's still a reasonable experience with one.
