Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is a brand-new 2.5D platformer from some of the key creative talent behind 'Donkey Kong Country'. With their arch-nemesis Capital B up to no good, the buddy duo needs to spring into action once again to save the day. To thwart his evil plan of using a “Hivemind” device to enslave an entire kingdom of bees, our heroes need to take the fight to Capital B’s “Impossible” Lair. Things look tough, but with the help of Queen Phoebee and her Royal Beetallion , Yooka and Laylee might just have a chance!

Think you’ve got a level figured out? Try it in its alternate state! Flip switches in the overworld to create new landscapes. Hook up electricity, submerge them in water, freeze or literally flip them upside down for radically altered challenges!
TONICS ARE BACK!
Mix up your gameplay with the return of ‘Tonics’! There are more than 60 game-modifying Tonics in Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair including infinite rolling, harder enemies and super speed. They can also unlock new environmental and visual effects!
BEE-AT THE IMPOSSIBLE LAIR!
Players are free to tackle Capital B’s Impossible Lair at any time; however, they may find it too much of a challenge without the help of the Royal Beetallion. Free them by completing levels and they will add to your defences when taking on Capital B’s dastardly traps!

It's got the Yooka. It's got the Laylee. Dude, there is a beet-red snake named Trowzer in the game. I thought to myself, "Why Trowzer?" The only thing that I could think of was that it was a reference to Bowser from Super Mario Bros. But that seemed like a stretch. It just didn't make sense. But then I realized the filthy, disgusting truth. TROWZER SNAKE. They named him trouser snake. In the game with the bright colors and the anthropomorphic talking objects with big googly eyes they slipped in a dirty ol' trouser snake. Slipped it right in there. Just went and flung that dirty old thing right in the middle of this kids' game with the shamelessness of a disgruntled Disney animator from the 1930s (y'know when Mickey was infamously trondling his hot rod with a cheesewheel as soon as the opportunity presented itself). A fantastic platformer The controls are great and very responsive The artstyle is pretty nice The level design is fantastic and the alternate levels really switch things up The final level was hard but really satisfying to conquer Overall if you like platformers this one is a must play

Too much time wasting mechanics and levels feel a bit empty.
So their first game was great but not amazing with trying to play similar to Banjo-Kazooie, so they decided on being similar to Donkey Kong now and that's this game. The whole point is to complete stages to rescue bees to stop a capitalist bee from doing something evil with those bees. It goes for a 2.5D feel that still has that atmospheric world setting with each area. The overworld brings an interesting feel to level selection with the notable feature of messing with the environment to alter the stages and have them play out differently compared to normal. The unlockable tonics change up how you play the game ranging from making the game easier or harder or for cosmetic reasons like different filters. The gameplay is solid with keeping most of the style and charm as the first game. The art style and music works well with each stage and its alternate version. The only issue is that because you can go straight to the final boss from the start, it makes the rest of the game feel like a large grind until you get enough hit points to make it through to the end, but then again you are also skipping the entierty of the game otherwise.
