About The Fall

✦ AI summary

Play as ARID, an AI struggling to save her unconscious pilot on a hostile alien planet while questioning the very protocols that drive her survival mission. Blend puzzle-solving exploration and side-scrolling combat in this atmospheric, story-driven adventure that seamlessly weaves narrative and gameplay into an unforgettable sci-fi experience.

Experience the first story in a mind bending trilogy! The Fall was recently awarded Game of the Year for Best Story from Giant Bomb.

Take on the role of ARID, the artificial intelligence onboard a high-tech combat suit. ARID's program activates after crashing on an unknown planet. The human pilot within the combat suit is unconscious, and it is ARID's duty to protect him at all costs! As she progresses into her twisted and hostile surroundings, driven to find medical aid before it is too late, the realities of what transpired on this planet force ARID to reflect upon her own protocols. ARID's journey to save her pilot ultimately challenges the very rules that are driving her.

The Fall is a unique combination of adventure-game puzzle solving, and side-scroller action, all set within a dark and atmospheric story. Exploration will be paramount to surviving your adventure. Utilize ARID's flashlight to uncover a myriad of interactive objects. If what you uncover is hostile, switch on your laser sight and kick some metal! Get ready for a disturbing journey as you fight, explore, and think your way forward, expanding ARID's world, in spite of her protocols.

The Fall features:
 • A compelling story - Crafted over the course of two years, The Fall's story is a cut above standard gaming fare.
 • Story/Gameplay integration - Players encounter challenges that force them to think in ways congruent with the game's story.
 • Thick atmosphere - A very well polished visual style is complemented with The Fall's full voice cast.
My Rating: 5/10
Completion: Barely played Achievements: 1/17 (5%) Time to Beat: N/A Price: Probably fair

Conclusion: Not Recommended
Interesting story ruined by horrible, nauseating controls. The price is probably okay for the game, but it's just not worth playing. Maybe watch a playthrough on YouTube.

I could only tolerate 30 minutes of this game, because the controls are horrendous. In order to find things to interact with, you have to shine your flashlight on them -- already really tedious, when it could just show you the interactables, rather than forcing you to look up, down, up, down, etc. as you walk to ensure you don't miss anything. When you do anything, it puts your flashlight away, meaning you can't interact with anything until you bring it back out. If you're trying to look at something at your feet, the camera angle will likely change 3-4 times because it keeps making you look left/right. It's not only tedious, but it's also harsh on the eyes. If you can manage to get past the horrible controls/gameplay mechanics, the premise was pretty cool, and I am intrigued to explore the story more. Though, …

A fairly vibey little experience with some interesting concepts. I'd recommend using a guide to finish the story unless you mind some confusing puzzles

Brief, but excellent. Must play if you liked Detroit BH.

The irony of this game is that I actually fell and got stuck and lost progress...

No idea what happened, but I made it halfway through, saved and exited. When loading game, there's no way to select item anymore. Regardless, not a bad game, but you have to love the genre.
