The most damning thing I can say about this game is that it's a roguelike with a [i]tiny[/i] item pool. Even after unlocking everything, there's a very good chance you'll have the opportunity to get almost if not every item in the game on a given run at least once. And despite that, there's [i]huge[/i] variance in the usefulness of any given item—you could get complete and total immunity to any and all floor spikes...or you could get conditional immunity to one attack, done by one enemy, in one region of the well you might not even go to. Or you may have already passed by the time the item's being offered! Despite that, it's still [i]Shovel Knight[/i], and all the reasons you loved the original [i]Shovel Knight[/i] are also true of this game. The way they're structured, the procedurally generated levels still offer finely crafted platforming challenges that, with the hidden side rooms and optional (but strongly recommended) Cog collectibles, still reward keen eyes and mastery of the fundamentals handsomely. its just not good. its a platformer with 0 of the elements that made the original game so good.
More shovel knight? yes please!
Like others have said, it's not the deepest roguelite where each run feels super different from the last, but the core gameplay is still really fun.
God awful controlls and which ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ idiot decided to not make the Mouse buttons bindable? Or to change menu controlls together with gameplay controll rebindings?
