Silly Polly Beast

A good indie game with too many flaws to keep it from reaching greatness, There are a lot of ideas packed in this game with many of them only being explored on a basic level. Further iterations on this game's ideas in a sequel or successor could definitely push them towards something must play. However, as it stands, this game is more or less a decent twin-stick-esque horror game that's high on art and ideas, but hit-or-miss on actual gameplay execution. If you enjoy supporting indies and don't mind dealing with some minor mechanical jank, then there is something interesting here to check out if you're willing to engage with it. If you're mainly looking for a mechanically interesting game, then you'll find there's not much to take away.

A little jank in some aspects but overall very good, especially from a small indie team. It's got an interesting story, great music, great art, cool character design and interesting gameplay mechanics. Some of those mechanics can be less than perfect and there are some encounters that can be pretty unbalanced. Why do the enemies that can sprout 8 arms kill you in 2 hits??? Those guys are way harder than the boss fights....

It's a cool game that's pretty stylish. It's survival horror-ish, but has its own approach. It's a mix of arenas you run around in, and 2D side scrolling sections, and some forced perspective sections. I liked that it didn't stick to a generic formula. You have a skateboard to do melee attacks with (you can throw it short-range like a boomerang too) and your primary weapon gets refilled at glowing trash cans (also some enemies drop a glowing symbol that refills it, so ammo scarcity isn't really a factor). That gives combat a little more of an arcade feel, which I enjoyed. I was surprised by the difficulty of quite a few sections. Maybe I just suck, but I really did have to take 5-10 tries on multiple parts. You play as a girl with a skateboard, but the game isn't especially light-hearted. There are no jokes or silly parts. I didn't mind that btw. Like I already said, it feels pretty unique in ways that I enjoyed. There were minor things I didn't like (a few control issues), but the good outweighs the bad and I definitely recommend it. It's a cool, stylish game that I'm glad I played!

Not a bad game. Got interesting at points and was challenging throughout.

Think it's pretty cool overall, though I'm really not a big fan of the combat. An the whole of act 3 can go to hell. You might want to follow a guide. Good story, good visuals. It's kind of a punk-rock silent hill. There's a few bugs though, and a thing or two that looked like undisclosed AI generated textures. Clair Obscur and Alters got away with not disclosing similar stuff either.
