About Skin Deep

Skin Deep is an immersive first-person shooter. We got sneezing. We got things getting stuck in your feet. Stalk through a vast non-linear starship and sneak, subvert, and sabotage to survive in this stellar sandbox. You're outnumbered, outgunned, and have no shoes.
Welcome to Skin Deep!

A WALKING TALKING INSURANCE POLICY

When insurance corporations want to keep valuables safe, they freeze you and stow you onto their cargo starships. And when space pirates board the starship and trip the silent alarm, you unthaw, take a deep breath, and handle the situation.Good luck, operative.

✦ AI summary

Players are divided on this stealth immersive sim. Those who enjoy it praise the creative mechanics, clever level design, charming writing, and distinctive art style that sets it apart from other games, with unconventional problem-solving tools like throwable objects that create chain reactions. Critics complain about clunky movement, problematic camera controls, repetitive level design that becomes samey over time, and feel the game's quirky presentation masks underlying mechanical weaknesses, with some finding themselves defaulting to improvised combat rather than engaging with the intended

This game is so damn REFRESHING, like holy heck, its so original it completely broke me. Every little part of the game is hyper unique in its own way. There is some roughness and repetiveness that drags it down SLIGHTLY, but it really is just absolutely OOZING with charm. Very well done, very fun. You play as the insurance commando on a number of unique ships. Pirates come in, you come out to play. I could ooze about the story or the aesthetic but I think giving a list of the crazy weird design choices would be better This game has: -Sneezing -Prone-movement blocking if you are in a tight space and couldn't turn around. -Enemies do not die, their heads pop off and float to regeneration devices, so you have to get creative and find ways to get rid of the heads. At one point I succumbed to my own success, killed 6 enemies, and had to juggle the heads because you only get 5 inventory spots and I had no way to dispose of them -You can exit the ship and choose your vector of entry. You can exit and enter through garbage chutes, windows, and airlocks. -If you enter or exit via garbage, you will stink and have to use deodorant or a shower to fix it. -Game comes with a unique sca…

Skin Deep is a game that makes me rethink what the whole "immersive sim" genre really is. The immersive sim is my favorite of all game genres, as I have a deep love of Deus Ex, Thief, System Shock, Prey, and the like. But, what sets Skin Deep apart from the other immersive sim games I have played, is that the immersive sim is usually deadly serious. Skin Deep, in the other hand, dives headlong into complete, patent absurdity...and despite how much I normally appreciate the serious, usually conspiracy-oriented stories of other immersive sims, the absurd humor of Skin Deep actually works. It's not the best immersive sim I've played, but it is still solidly an immersive sim and gave myself and my kids some genuine laugh out loud moments. Sneaking around ships, ambushing immortal pirates and flushing their heads down toilets so that they don't resurrect is oddly satisfying experience. Every ship is a maze that you must master, and every physically superior foe is a puzzle you must solve, right in line with other games of the genre. It doesn't have the same deep story with twists and turns where you're always trying to guess what the next surprise will be, and it doesn't attempt to…

This game is fantastic and hilarious. You basically get a bunch of self-contained mini immersive sim levels with a bunch of humor thrown in. Really worth your time and money.

Not what I expected it to be, but pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed this game. Fun stealth and absolutely silly story. Loved it.

charming as hell. if the game was any longer it might have overstayed its welcome, but the easily digested length and consistent new mechanics kept the gameplay fresh while the story unfolded. i tend to struggle to play the modern 100h AAA titles these days and this is a nice change of pace. Pick it up any time, but especially if youre between games or waiting for a bigger release. call it a palette cleanser.
