About Sovietpunk: Chapter one

Sovietpunk is a cyberpunk story set in the setting of the Soviet Union after a global nuclear war. You have to guide the main character through the gloomy tunnels, in which the struggle for life is in full swing.

In 2002, a nuclear conflict engulfed the entire world. The surface of the earth became temporarily uninhabitable, all the survivors organized life underground. The government announced the "Snowdrop" project, according to which, after 40 years, life on the surface will be possible again.

The events of the game take us to 2037, in which very little is left before returning to the surface. But people are already exhausted by life underground, there are not enough resources for everyone. We have to look at this world, full of injustice and hardships, through the eyes of an old hard worker, and also overcome all the trials sent to him by fate.

For more efficient resource management, society was divided into 2 levels: Upper and Lower, which eventually resulted in significant social problems. Poverty, hunger, crime, high mortality, corruption are just an incomplete list of the gloomy realities of the Lower Level, which ordinary people have become prisoners.

Cyberpunk
Stressful conditions have given rise to new technologies such as implants or food synthesis. Many of them are not yet perfect and hide terrible secrets, but it is technology that is the beacon of hope in such a complex world.

Point & Click
The game contains Point & Click elements: the locations have interactive objects that carry additional information about the world and contribute to immersion.

✦ AI summary

Sovietpunk Chapter One offers an intriguing dystopian premise with decent pixel art and world-building, but players are disappointed by its minimal interactivity as a visual novel disguised as an adventure game, along with numerous spelling and grammatical errors throughout. The experience is criticized for being very short, featuring a simplistic and clichéd story with flat characters, abrupt music transitions, and awkward pacing between slides, though some acknowledge it has potential and could be worthwhile at a discount price.

Sovietpunk: Chapter One is a dystopian narrative adventure developed and published by Hot Chill that combines post-apocalyptic survival themes with cyberpunk influences and Soviet-inspired world design. Rather than presenting players with a futuristic world driven by flashy technology and corporate dominance alone, the game creates something harsher and more oppressive. It imagines a future shaped by nuclear destruction, social collapse, and decades of life spent beneath the surface of a ruined planet. The result is a bleak but fascinating setting where survival no longer represents victory but merely another difficult day endured. The game takes place in an alternate future where nuclear war devastated civilization and forced humanity underground. With the planet rendered temporarily uninhabitable, people retreated into massive underground settlements built to preserve what remained of society. Over time, survival evolved into something more complicated. New social divisions formed, resources became increasingly limited, and inequality slowly transformed underground life into a system built around class separation and struggle. The dream of rebuilding civilization remained alive,…

Almost 4 hours into a few replays of this game. It is story rich but it is also typo-rich. Guys, please edit the writing. I like the pixel graphics and the premise, got a good handle on the world building but again, the typos! So many! It hurts my brain a little every time (a lot). I will recommend the game as a 'yes' because everything else seems good and enjoyable.

This is not point and click. It's a visual novel with almost no interaction. You only click on an arrow to change the slide. The animation is so minimal that it just looks like stills - and, considering the amount of text I had to read all the time, I was barely noticing those visual aids that are way too small in the first place. On top of that there's a delay between certain slides, a second of black screen which also adds to the overall low quality feel. Someone else already mentioned this and I agree, soundtrack is just awful. It cuts off on a high note really abruptly and it really throws me off. Lots of spelling errors too. In the end you find out that this was only a first chapter of Rebirth and it will continue with Rebirth 2 - which means they renamed the game and failed to edit that bit too. Story was not compelling enough for me to care about a sequel. Just bunch of men swearing, drinking and being violent, while women prostitute themselves and do drugs. Not much of a plot imo, hard to root for the main character and overall vibe didn't feel very thrilling, but somehow depressing. Oh well.

Very short and more of a visual novel than adventure/point'n'click game, but there is some potential and for that price (especially with 50% off) it's worth and hopefully sequel will have more mechanics and longer story if it will ever come out There are a few things in the background you can check for bonus info about the world and even a machine to play so it even have side activities, but it's hard to get immersed in such a short, simple and cliche story Writing is not terrible but it has no real depth and is very simplistic, and every character seems almost the same... but again for that price it's hard to expect much more... and then again for such lenght even this price should give us something slightly better as when it comes to design and art it actually doesn't look bad Overall it feels rushed both in terms of how fast we get from a scene to another and in terms of development, as it feels like someone wrote the script in one sitting after getting arts, added two sounds in, two soundtracks and published it Maybe it deserves the not recommened more than to recommend it, yet I feel that neutral opinion also fits better (steam pls let us give them not only as curators) as …
