Space Menace

So, apparently, the game loop of this free frustration simulator, err, "game" is pretty simple: 1) Spawn near station 2) Spend money for upgrades you mostly can't use on a basic ship that can't survive a fart in its general direction 3) Fight any ship 4) Die 5) Reload GOTO Step 1 and repeat IF you happen to survive, then most of the time you'll get ambushed by pirates when trying to jump to the system where you need to do your mission. Unless you jump away ASAP, you'll die... GOTO Step 1, repeat. IF you happen to actually make it to the system of your mission, you don't have enough firepower on that ship to do anything but die - pirates have better ships & weapons, stations have better weapons, EVERYONE has better ships and weapons... Defending a station? HA! You can't even defend yourself. Escorting a convoy? Yeah, right. Good luck even denting the first wave of attackers. Interception? Good luck! You're gonna be dead before you even get close to damaging the station, much less the defenders. Pirate hunting? Only if you have a death wish... I do enjoy myself a nice space based RTS style game, but this one is not it. There seems to be a general lack of combat depth to the game, and the game feels rudimentary yet also confusing at the same time. I played the tutorial, but even in the tutorial it was kind of basic at first and then dumped me with nothing else to do. I was quite confused about what to even do even after playing the tutorial. I tried exploring myself and playing as is, but it just felt like the game was lacking as a whole that made me bored really fast.

I couldn't understand what everything in the game does. Namely all of the modules you could slot into your ship's loadout seemed the same in terms of function aside from the health regen. However, even a simple written tooltip for them would go a long ways for differentiating them, like "Sends a barrage of missiles at incoming ships for <damage>" or "repairs your ship's hull for <amount> every <tick frequency>". I also mistook the "Missions" tab for where the player can accept missions (it's actually the Station tab once a sector's clear, but the way it was phrased implied that it was a sector you could visit). Saving likewise is poorly explained as trying to save over an occupied slot instead reloads that slot. Overall it's got an intriguing premise but is held back by having vague explanations for some mechanics and the auto save.

Genuinely simple game where you get bigger ships, change their loadouts to and add bigger guns or hangars and just conquer the map. I doubt I'd get 10 hours out of it (there is an achievement) but it amused me for a few.
