First and foremost, I want to acknowledge that the writing is well done, and the story itself is fine. However, in a game like this, the characters are what truly make or break the experience for me, and, to be honest, I didn’t find any of them likable. In fact, my feelings toward them were firmly set within the first few minutes of reading...SPOILERS: [spoiler] The main RO's pretty much take the MC and force them into a ritual under false pretenses. The ritual is supposed to save the MC and give them magical powers, but the way they went about it was just absurd to me. Even the characters are like, "We should have done it differently." Then why didn't you? "We didn't want the MC to run away." Which even when the MC does try to run during the ritual, they are forced back into it no matter what. The whole situation could have gone differently with good communication and explanation. [/spoiler] Despite the unlikable characters—trust me, their issues throughout the story only make them less and less appealing to me—the mystery and overall plot remain at least interesting when you're not dealing with them. It's not bad, but not great, either. In many ways, it just sort of is. It's short, and feels like a part one - the rules of magic are left vague, despite the game being entirely about magic, at least in theory. It also feels like there should be a lot of options for polyamory in this, but there aren't. It's kind of a Poor Man's Keeper Of the Day And Night. It's worth the sale price - but doesn't clear being "worth it" by a huge margin, and I'd recommend spending the money on the Keeper series instead. honestly everything moves way too fast I barley knew the characters problems seem to be so easily resolved doesn't have enough build up imo the interactions between characters are a bit of a let down as well also for a magic game there is so little magic no point in choosing elements or whatever i don't even remember it making a difference i think i used it twice? maybe2 found this helpful
A bit short and sweet, it feels a bit different than other interactive fiction games I've played. I like the characters and I think this game offers plenty of good choice, but the end feels somewhat abrupt- at least the two times I've gone through it by the time of this review, the end of the epilogue sort of left me wondering what the fallout of the actions I took would be, but it's sort of like I only get half of what I would expect from an epilogue. Still, the romance is cute, I agree with another review that said there was an odd case of 'cell phone distraction syndrome' of sorts whenever there was romantic tension to be had, and because the story feels so short it feels like the romance comes a bit fast too. That being said this story has such a good setup for at least some polyamory, and I was really surprised when it wasn't an option. But I only paid about $5 USD for this game, and for that I absolutely got my money's worth. It's cute, short, and sweet, well written, and a good story, I look forward to the next game they write- especially if they can improve upon the foundations made in this game.1 found this helpful
I enjoyed “Spellbound: Malachite Coven” and found it engaging enough to stay up late completing it. While it has its strengths, such as beautiful writing and vibrant characters, it also has some aspects that might not work for everyone. (7/10) While the story is compelling, its pacing can feel a bit rushed at times. For example, you might find yourself contemplating kissing someone before getting to the point where that feels natural, or perhaps the plot pushes forward a little too quickly at times and almost seems to skip past the action-packed parts. Another drawback has to do with the romance system; while many characters display interest in you, the game ultimately locks you into a single partner rather than allowing you to explore alternatives. It’s a limitation that feels at odds with the number of potential romantic connections woven into the narrative. And to top it off, the game concludes rather abruptly, leaving you wishing for just a bit more closure. One particularly amusing quirk is the constant phone interruptions; just when things are about to get interesting with your potential partners, someone always seems to call or text, pulling you away.
