Terminator: Resistance

This is one of those solid "7/10 games" you hear about every so often, where the quality of your experience increases tenfold if you temper your expectations. It doesn't do anything radically new, but it definitely feels like a labor of love within the production values this team could afford, especially if you're looking for a proper Terminator game. It's evident that the development team are die-hard, knowledgeable Terminator fans. The atmosphere is incredible, the setting is everything you want out of the franchise, the story is engaging and well paced, the characters are well voiced and well written, the exposition is minimal, and the gameplay loop is simple but surprisingly addictive. The set pieces and cinematic moments are also incredibly well staged and intense. Enemy variety is strong as well, keeping the combat consistently fun. If you want a simple chapter-based FPS where you're given tight maps to explore, fight through, loot, and craft in, along with some light RPG elements like skill trees and weapon customization, you'll enjoy it. [h3]The Visuals and Cinematic Vibe[/h3] The graphics are actually pretty good. The soundtrack is decent, though honestly I wish it was way more upbeat to get your blood pumping during fights. The major action cutscenes feel genuinely cinematic too. If the whole game kept that energy, it would be a blast. [h3]The Floating Camera and Movement[/h3] Unfortunately, the illusion falls apart the second you start playing. Because the walking animation is super basic, being in first person just makes you feel like a floating camera drifting through the levels. [h3]Dialogue and the Fallout Aesthetics[/h3] When you stop to talk to people, it gets rough. The writing is not very good, the voice acting is mediocre, and the facial animations are just flat out bad. On top of that, the HUD is incredibly basic and looks cheap, which only adds to that dated Fallout clone feeling. [h3]Repetitive Design and Annoying NPCs[/h3] The biggest hurdles come down to the actual design and technical issues. The level design is not good, and the core gameplay loop gets repetitive fast. Every time you see a school bus, you have to take a shot of Vodka! This is not a game that takes place in the Southern California of the United States, but an alternate one version somewhere in eastern Europe. See the 50s diners of 80s Pasadena. See the mansions made of reinforced concrete where every bathroom in every home has a card/coin operated washing machine but never a dryer. See the deep pine forests of Hollywood Hills! It's a trip. It's also funny to see how poorly defenses are set up by the resistance, how they store ammo and flammable gas canisters right next to oil drums full of burning wood to warm themselves in the underground corridors. It is very cold in Southern California, so wear many layers of clothes! But seriously, even though the game is super easy, the story was actually pretty decent and the gameplay was fun. I kept playing it, even as I rolled my eyes at the many flaws in this game. And it was fun! I even liked the ending. I gotta say, if you can get it for under 10$ and you like a good "B" game every once in a while, give this one a go. It's pretty funny and fun.

This is by far best Terminator sequel to original films we will ever get. Team did fantastic job respecting source material. Soundtrack is also fantastic.

I you are a fan of the Terminator franchise and especially the first two movies, then you NEED to play this game and its Annihilation Line DLC! The gameplay is not absolutely fantastic, but it does a pretty decent job of entertainment. I recommend this game a hundred percent.

Really surprised by how much I liked this game! Even though 100% of the environment is rubble and ruins I never felt bored. Exploring was often rewarded with extra objectives which is a big plus. I liked the variety of enemies as well as guns. I don't know much about the Terminator lore aside from the first two movies so I can't speak to that side of things, but the easter eggs I could pick out were appreciated! Very fun game with an equally fun Infiltrator mode and DLC.
