About The Guise
You play as Ogden, an orphan whose curiosity got the better of him. After disobeying the headmistress of his orphanage and sneaking into a locked room, he gave in to temptation and tried on a cursed mask that transformed him into a monster. You will have to get used to this new body, master monstrous abilities, and try not to lose the last remnants of your humanity. You have the advantages of bestial agility, monstrous strength, and inhuman capabilities. But watch out — in this hostile world, almost everything is out to get you.
The world of The Guise is filled with terrifying locations, including dying villages, dark forests, labyrinthine dungeons, and deadly valleys swarming with demons. Find secrets, hidden passageways, and concealed rooms containing treasures that shed new light on Ogden's world.
The main gameplay hook is your persistent monstrous form. As a human, you could have fought with a sword or any other weapon, but now you have only your newfound feral abilities to rely on.
Unlock new monstrous abilities by defeating bosses and absorbing their skills. Every time you vanquish an ordinary foe, you collect their eyeballs — local currency that can be spent to upgrade your abilities with the Eye Collector.
The macabre world of The Guise may be harsh and unjust, but there are still a few people you can count on - for example, children whose eyes remain unsullied, whose perception of the world has yet to be touched by the darkness. Hello friends, Today i will review the game THE GUISE. This is a story about a child who lives in a orphanage and sneeks into the matron's room and finds a weird mask. His friends dare him to put the mask on, and it turns him into a monster. Now he must find a way to remove the mask and become human again, but the quest is not easy. This game is a light metroidvania. It has some backtracking to find items that can be useful and powers to powerup your character. It also includes a upgrade system to upgrade abilities. Anyways, here are my pros and cons: PROS: - A interesting story about a kid becoming a monster. - Controller support for the game. I used a logitech F310. - The developer is still actively improving the game. They even fixed a bug i found when i mentioned it on the forum. - Multiple endings depends on a choice you make. - Powerups and upgrades. - Amulets to help out the hero. - Sidequests to find and finish. CONS: - When the game loads up, it takes awhile to load up the game. - Sometimes when loading a new area, the game freezes up and stays a black screen. This only happened twice to me. "The Guise" is one of literally thousands of retro 2D platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere... and I'm not kidding. Searching for "platformers" on the Steam store page yields over 17,000 results! Is this one of the best of those? Absolutely not. This is a really badly ported Nintendo Switch "metroidvania" style platformer. The quality of the game itself is on par with the quality of the Nintendo Switch port - awful. The idea is that you're a kid in an orphanage, you put on a mask that turns you into a monster and you have to go find "someone" to turn you back into a little orphan boy. Okay. I guess it should be acknowledged that this is a genuinely made game, doesn't come across as a cash grab or asset flip... but when that's the best thing that can be said about a game, you know we're going to have a bad time. The graphics are very poor quality, the game is clearly translated into English from some other language (Russian I think). The gameplay is on the same level, boring, repetitive... there's also some game breaking bugs, but you might be lucky and not run into them. More of a no, then a yes. The game as it is is just... too boring. Bare bones of the "metroid" gameplay. Controls are... okayish. Bosses are ununspiring copies of themselves, attacks are just the same. Ending is a "Congratulations" screen and "you choose to kill a real bad guy" ending. Story can fit into one paragraph of text, and we can count ALL dialogs in game there. I think even for a small indie game - there could be more.3 found this helpful

Save file keeps disappearing, I tried to play the game 3 times before giving up on it. Too bad, it was a cool concept to play a metroidvania as a monster.
