About The Night is Grey

Graham is alone in a forest filled with strange wolves. While he’s fleeing for his life he finds a lost girl in an abandoned lodge that won’t survive without his help. Try to find their way to safety in this game filled with puzzles, engaging dialogue and innovative storyline.
But watch out: not everything is what it seems.

A cinematic slow burn thriller with some psychological horror elements told through the classic perspective of point & click adventure games. The Night is Grey is about modern storytelling fused together with hand-drawn animated characters, fully animated backgrounds and an original studio recorded music score.

TRADITIONAL FRAME BY FRAME CHARACTER ANIMATION
Character animations were painstakingly drawn frame by frame. Each animation is 12 frames per second, giving it that classical 2D animations feel.

DIGITALLY PAINTED ANIMATED BACKGROUNDS
Over 50 different locations were painted by hand and individually rearranged and animated, resulting in animated panoramic backgrounds that will suck you in.

FULLY ORIGINAL AND ORCHESTRATED MUSIC SCORE
Our soundtrack was purposefully created to amplify the game's storytelling. All tracks were recorded in studio with different compositions that make the songs dynamic throughout the game.

A LOVE LETTER TO POINT & CLICK ADVENTURE GAMES

I rarely leave negative reviews, as I'm a proponent of pointing out what worked instead of harping on what didn't but the visuals and trailer for this game made a lot of people assume it was about werewolves. Or some horrifying beast in the woods. It is neither. It is about an abused man who becomes abusive...unable to properly reconcile his misdeeds as he keeps losing his memory of it. The message of kindness in the credits is lost because of this. He wasn't healed, he didn't choose to do the right thing. He doesn't even know what he did, or if he does he won't say it, won't confess. Saccharine sentimentality does nothing without the hard choices, choices kept too vague to be meaningful. The heavy topics were also handled poorly, given so little detail it was more a game of wink and nudge and hope the message gets through, and the characterization was so heavy-handed it was irritating to be with this man so long. He wasn't interesting in his self-hatred as it didn't feel warranted, nor did anyone else's distaste of him. We saw a man struggling with demons we weren't allowed to know, everyone else treated him as an irritant without obvious cause. I adore insufferable main charac…

The Night is Grey is a captivating point-and-click adventure that combines psychological suspense with emotional storytelling, creating an experience that feels more like an interactive animated film than a conventional horror game. Developed and published by Whalestork Interactive, the story follows Graham, a man fleeing through a dark forest filled with mysterious wolves. His desperate escape leads him to Hannah, a young girl taking refuge in an abandoned lodge. Together they begin a dangerous journey in search of safety, but the deeper they travel into the wilderness, the more the line between reality and illusion begins to blur. Rather than relying on constant scares, the game builds tension through mystery, character interactions, and a carefully paced narrative that keeps players questioning everything they see. The game's greatest strength lies in its storytelling. While the opening presents a familiar survival premise, the narrative gradually reveals itself through meaningful dialogue, environmental clues, and unexpected twists that continually reshape the player's understanding of the events. Graham and Hannah develop a believable relationship that gives the story genuine…

The Night is Grey is a game about the many facets of the word ,,surprise'' - it's endearing, yet revolting, its shocking, yet resonating, its give you hope, yet... - and the eternal rivalry between Light and Darkness - from its color scheme, through the time frame of its main plot, ending in the exploration of the human psyche and relationships. The game maximizes its duration, fully fulfilling the promise of an unforgettable artistic experience. This effect is further aided by the structure of the puzzles. have the feeling that the developers make the conscious decision about their puzzle's non-standart - difficulty curve - while they begin simply and escalate predictably, the puzzles do not reach their zenith of complexity at the finale; instead, the peak coincides precisely with the first of two critical narrative turning points. My only beef with this game is not the lack of voice acting per se, but how the dialogue is presented. Something is missing on that front, but I can't quite put my finger on it exactly.

A wonderful little gem. Not often do I play a 7 hour game in just two sessions, but thisone really grabbed me. It's mostly cosy with some psychological horror elements and gore (no jumpscares). I thought the atmosphere, the art and animation and the story were fantastic. Many thumbs up!
