The Spectral Web: Hitodama

Narrow recommendation, It's kind of dull. It plays adequately and is cheap. Every screen looking like random Zelda dungeon rooms just isn't all that compelling to me. Your character has no defensive options (No dash or block), and spaces are tight on every screen, so you will frequently get boxed in by the enemies and take unavoidable damage. This makes playing on anything higher than the default difficulty an absolute slog where you will die every few screens until you get kind of lucky. You need to shoot every tile on every screen because pretty much all of them have a hidden way or thing to collect. This got a bit tedious honestly.

Definitely really fun! It's very combat and exploration focused, reminds me a lot of Kharon's Crypt. If you enjoy finding secrets, exploring a labyrinth, and fighting a diverse enemy set - check it out!

A marvelous game, an oldschool Metroidvania with Zelda-like gameplay. The price is an absolute STEAL, this would be easily worth at least $15, especially with how packed-full-of-content it is. 2 entire world maps, as well as multiple game modes to play in (unlocked as you go), gives PLENTY of content. I got almost 40 hours of gameplay out of this, and that's just what I needed to finish the achievements- there's entire characters and settings I have yet to try. This game deserves all the love and praise, it's a true passion project that [i][b]delivers[/b][/i] on being an amazing experience- and all for such a low price.

a really great game, especially for the low price the core gameplay is really fun, all the secrets felt fair and were really fun to find, all the powerups felt usefull and enjoyable and i always looked forward to what ill unlock at the end of each run the music was really good and i was humming it to myself while playing, and while the story wasnt the greatest it kept me wanting to see the next thing, and is better and more interesting than most of the stories that these kind of gameplay focused games have its also a great game for speedrunning or challenge runs, and the randomizer was such a good edition to the game the only problem i had was that it sometimes was hard to remember how to arrive to places that ive been to on the map since stairs to other areas dont show on the map, but that really isnt much of a bother and didnt detract much from my enjoyment of the game i really recommend this game, its really fun and definitly worth the money, and i hope more people find it since its a shame to see such a great game be so unknown

A dungeon crawling game made by someone who was clearly familiar with Zelda 1. At times the level design can feel a little archaic, with a lot of enemies packed into a fairly cramped room, but it's not really any worse than anything Zelda 1 did with its dungeons. If you're okay with treating health as a resource and enjoy a little nostalgia, The Spectral Web: Hitodama can be a fun experience for a few hours, with the second quest and randomizer modes adding some additional longevity if you wish there was more. There is quite a bit of attacking walls though. The secrets are generally well-indicated, especially when you get the abilities that let you sense which rooms have secrets, but especially early on in the first quest there are some rooms where just navigating through them at all can feel a bit silly. It gets better. Also, when you die, you at least get restored to full health back at the beginning of the current biome, so that's cool. The areas are all small enough that it's not really frustrating. I'm not sure if the game gets meaner about that above Normal difficulty, but in my experience it really let the game get away with design that would feel much worse in a different…

A cute indie game with a Metroidvania-like structure. It's got fun music and an intriguing story that takes some unexpected turns. I've just finished the main story - but there are at least three other routes still to go. Can't wait to tackle those after some more of my 50+ game backlog. Worth the $3-4!
