I just finished this epic turn-based strategic combat game last night and I just wanted to share some of my thoughts on it while my memory is still fresh. I love games of this genre, and my favourites include XCom2, Jagged Alliance 3, Wartales, Divinity: Original Sin 2, Battle Brothers, etc. Likes: - The storytelling was epic. Totally engaging, with twists and turns and some tough decision making. - The combat system was well thought out, feels polished and I experienced no bugs during my entire run. - The classes are varied, and the 2 tier promotion gives room to more strategic possibilities. - The flow from one battle scene to another feels engaging and natural. - The battle chests and enemy units to drop loot is always good to have. - Needing to fulfill certain requirements to hire special units is definitely fun. I'll need to redo Noah's ;) Suggestions: - No saving options during the battle, when there are large number of units involved, can mean redoing the entire battle when you make even the tiniest mistake. My suggestion, make this an option for like Ironman mode or something where death is permanent and there are no save options during battle. But allow for more casual p…
A really solid TBS that scratches the Fire Emblem itch while still maintaining it's own identity. For starters the story is much better than a typical Fire Emblem game (let's be honest, the bar is mostly low). The forge system allows for some fun builds and diversity amongst characters with the same class. And flanking attacks and combat zone stop you from mindlessly throwing overpowered units forward and switching your brain off. Veteran difficulty was fine without too much challenge until chapter 15. I was able to get all achievements in one run with only a couple of chapters requiring restarts and proper planning. Overall a really impressive indie game and I look forward to TWR2!
Good game but they should really consider a save option in battle. The fights are incredibly long and if you lose a story character towards the end of the battle then you have to start over. That can be a lot of wasted time. Time I don't have. Edit: I just dropped difficulty and sped up combat time. Problem solved.
Those Who Rule – A Hidden Gem That Kept Me Coming Back
I rarely replay tactical RPGs immediately after finishing them. Yet after completing Those Who Rule, I jumped straight into a second playthrough on Veteran, and now I'm already planning a third on Brutal. After nearly 90 hours, I still wanted more. The game is incredibly addictive. Every playthrough teaches you something new, and understanding its mechanics completely changes how you approach future runs.
Your First Playthrough Is the Hardest
Ironically, my first playthrough was harder than Veteran. Not because Veteran is easy, but because I simply didn't understand how many systems the game hides from the player. I didn't realize how important recruiting every available character was, especially Melanie, who completely transformed my economy during my second playthrough. On my first run I barely had enough money to upgrade my weapons. On Veteran, thanks to Melanie's ability to generate gold, I could finally invest in upgrading unique weapons instead of constantly struggling for money. She is easily one of the strongest utility characters in the game.
Don't Start With Permadeath
I strongl…
Ok, as a long fan of Fire Emblem (from the GBA era, being the last 3H becuse I reject Engage with all my soul) someone recommended me this game and I tried it. For those wondering this is a gem to me, I will put below pros and cons but it is a 9/10 because the limited budget and dev team size didn't let it become an 11/10 Here are the "*PROS*" to me on this game 1 - First of all, the art of the game appealed to me, no hyper-realistic bs, good art direction, small size and amazing pricing while working well on Linux (surely on Steam Deck but I mean on Linux, tried it on Mint, Manjaro, OpenSue, all fine). 2 - Second and here is where I started to fall in love with the game, upon starting you are asked not only difficulty but "Perma Death or not? Random Growth Rates on characters or fixed ones?" That made me realize this was a game made with passion for all the gamers who love the genre. 3 - Third... the voice relating... it is really well done, props to the guy, the characters themselve have no voice acting but their drawing fit all the circumstances, and yet those little moments between chapters where the story is told by the narrator give it not only a nice touch but a touching…
One of the best games in this genre, there are a lot of refreshing mechanics and the story is fun and gives you impactful decisions. Fully recommend this game, at any price.
