Time To Walk Alone

Time To Walk Alone is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro pixel platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. This shovelware platformer is distinct because it uses the "blind" gimmick, that is to say you don't see the elements of the level until you get near them. This is popular amongst lazy developers because players spend more time going through each level learning the map, so they don't have to spend as much time doing the actual job of game developers and making plenty of content and doing level design. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. I didn't have high expectations for this game as I received a copy of it for free, but I wouldn't mind there being a bit more content and variation in levels. The story also seems a bit strange at times and leaves a lot to be desired. There are no options to choose a different screen resolution or change keybinds which can be kind of annoying and the movement of the character makes the game more difficult than it should be since the levels themselves are not very complex. Don't get me wrong, it's a pretty cool concept for a platformer game, but it's nothing special as there are already plenty of games similar to this. I'm not sure I'd pay the full asking price for it, but if it goes on sale and you want to try it I recommend you give it a go.
