Towerfolk

I really wanted to enjoy Towerfolk, but unfortunately my experience has been extremely frustrating. I bought the game months ago and since February I have been dealing with repeated Fatal Error crashes that have prevented me from playing normally. After the latest update, I first tried my old save, but it crashed again. I then started a completely new game from scratch, hoping the issue had finally been fixed. I played normally, developed my settlement, completed buildings and upgrades, and everything worked fine. However, when I started building the stone perimeter wall around the settlement, the game crashed with a Fatal Error. When I opened the game again, it returned me to the last save of the same game, before I had built the stone perimeter wall. I then played for about another two hours without building any perimeter wall. During that time, I completed my buildings and upgrades and the game worked normally without crashing. As soon as I started building the stone perimeter wall again, the game crashed with another Fatal Error. So this is not simply a problem with my old save. The same problem happened in a completely new game after the latest update, and in my case it appear…

The game has quite a few shortcomings, but I think it could turn out really well if development continues.

Recommended, but I'd personally wishlist Towerfolk for now unless you specifically want to support the project in Early Access. There's a charming little colony-management game here. The art style is lovely, the music is cosy, and the systems are simple enough that it feels much more approachable than most colony sims. The problem is that it currently feels quite bare-bones. There can be long stretches where you're simply waiting for resources or something to happen, and I'd like to see a lot more buildings, progression and meaningful choices added over time. Combat also needs work. Troops can only be controlled in large groups, their AI can be unreliable, and because they're expensive and die quickly, I sometimes found it better to just let bandits steal resources. I also had three major crashes in around two hours, although the developer is already pushing fixes for crashes and troop behaviour. Overall, I enjoyed my time with it and think there's plenty of potential here. It just needs more content, better troop controls and some technical polish before I'd strongly recommend jumping in.

Quite a bad game, expanding your city costs an egregious amount of gold (about 10 days of no spending with 1 trade route and 30 villagers) and you overproduce everything you touch without being able to sell it. WInter is so easy, just build a storage and survive off of the copious amount of fish you can't sell, (that and i only had 3 fishing posts instead of 4 because 1 was unselectable, everything else is hard to select too) and a bandit attack blocked my trade for 6 days while surviving for 3 against an army i only built after they arrived (i just bought a militia an archer and 2 soldiers) Played on hard btw. Would have been kinder, but this game has no negative reveiws when it definitely deserves quite a few, about mixed rating, the low amount of content is also pretty bad, with the win condition being something i couldve gotten by waiting 10 minutes if i opened all the trade routes and bought the requirements. tldr, short game with bugs, slow progression and no resource management required. Hopefully this review will be outdated in a few months, but right now, don't buy, £9.30 is very steep even without the bugs.

This was a fun game to stream. Some work to be done, but the overall game play was exciting. Keeping your town defended from the enemies was challenging but not too hard. Looking forward to future updates!

The game is enjoyable, and watching your town grow step by step feels very satisfying. There are some bugs, and adding new buildings and technologies would improve the experience. In the late game, a few balance issues related to game mechanics can appear, but that’s understandable for an early access title. I’m looking forward to the full release.
