An absolute gem no one seems to know about. Vellum is a roguelike shooter that's beautifully designed, has a distinct style, is remarkably well optimized, and is fun and challenging besides. Just an excellent game. Gameplay in Vellum is choosing an ink from a large selection, each of which has a specific style of combat attached to it: critical striking, AOE leeching, applying DOTs, and many more. Then you select a mana generator, each of which has its own range and optimal playstyle, then a mana spender that complements your ink, then a movement skill. Then you enter one of a dozen different books that have their own skill trees within that let you modify their contents and challenges. You fight waves of enemies, select modifiers to your skills that increase your power or change your playstyle, and kill bosses. You're rewarded for this with currency to increase your passive power and buy new skills. This is the full gameplay loop, and that loop doesn't get repetitve because as soon as you get used to it, Vellum asks you to start stacking negatives against the player to make each run more challenging in exchange for more resources. This game's amazing if you like the Roguelike genre. Bonus points for having some amazing coop gameplay too. Don't know how I've missed this game for a whole year since it released. Really having a blast playing it.

Insanely fun!
Game has lots of bosses and even raids. There's lots of content to eat through. Though the reason why i end up with a negative score is because game just forces you to stop and read every 5 minutes runing the flow. You start a match, finish first chapter (map) and then: 1. Read & choose a scroll 2. Read & choose a scroll 3. Read & choose a tome buff 4. Load to next arena 5. Read & choose a debuff And you do that every single chapter. Most of those buffs and debuffs are inconsequential and they ruin the flow. I'd say some of primary/secondary damage has weird balance choice, where some of them just feel alot worse than others. It's not a bad game, just the kinda good game that gets in its own way
