WITCH'S is one of the most videogamey fantasy games, and I can't help but admire its earnest style. There are sparkly, mystical sound effects when you do anything of importance, the HUD -while minimalist- evokes simple arcade titles, and the world itself -floating unchained in an ethereal void- makes it feel like you're playing on the edge of imagination, pressing against the border of reality. You may have seen these art assets and ideas before, but WITCH'S knows how to use them really, really well. It all feels like playing with tiny figurines, as a child, and strongly evokes the Toybox Takeover game mode from Disney Infinity, especially given the overhead perspective. When we strip away the romanticism, we have a light action-rpg here, but like the presentation, it excels with what little it has. The level design is thoughtful, with tight corridors that encourage skilled movement, where you quickly learn to prioritize your resources and tackle enemies in the most efficient order. Each encounter feels like its own lighting fast puzzle, bolstered by your limited number of ranged weapons, and how swiftly the enemies perish. Your health refills on its own, but only to half, ensurin…3 found this helpful
Most free school projects are technically much better than this paid slop. It has no basic features, no options, no input scheme worth its salt, only that tribal WASD nonsense that keeps popping up after 40+ years of polluting PC gaming. Steam support must therefore take over. Yet even then, the controller in one hand must be assisted by the mouse in another hand just to hope to achieve anything. Yet even then mob visibility is so rotten that one has no idea where to aim at or what is supposed to be dodged. In fact, you can't even see your own avatar. Amateurs posing as pros, giving indie devs a bad name.
such a short good memory to remember! costs nothing but does worth a lot!
WITCH'S, at the time of writing, is the most recent game from Marafigo Games, and single person company. You are sent to retrieve a package for your king from the neighboring town, but run into trouble returning home, finding an evil Witch has taken over the kingdom! Story - Another example that a simple story can take you far. You know at all times why your are doing what you are. You are sent on an errand and return to see the kingdom in ruins and you are the only one who can save everyone. Gameplay - This is where the game struggles the most unfortunately. The movement keys are WASD but to interact/ attack anything you must click it with your mouse. Doing to do both at the same time however will cause your character to bug out and stop all actions, which lead to death many times in the playthrough. Combat consists with you clicking an enemy and doing one basic attack, either with a sword for up close or a bow for ranged. That is it, no dodge or sprint, so most combat encounters feel like its luck based for whoever can get more hits in. The "boss" battles consist of a horde of enemies that you need to keep resetting until you get lucky enough to defeat all the enemies, the fina…
